Catalano's Bakery

Catalano's Bakery - 10/08/12 08:46 AM

After all these years, Catalano's Bakery in Middle Village has been sold. It's now "Joey's Bakery".

It made national headlines during the Pizza Connection trial. I'd go there when visiting NY just because I considered it a mob landmark. Now it's gone.

Does anyone know if Catalano is still in Queens? Or did he get deported after he was released from prison?

I have not heard a word, even on this site where the topic came up a few times.

I'm guessing the Catalano family is getting old and cashing in. Their bakery was in business for about 35 years.

Vinny i don't think i've ever been to Catalano's bakery, at least that i can remember but a friend of mine said Sal made a mean cannoli before he was locked up. I wonder what he's up to these days?

That's what I'm wondering.

I was just reading a couple old reviews of the place and it seems that the Catalano Brothers Bakery was known for their bread especially their semolina bread. Anyone here ever try it?

I've been there many times. I liked the bread. I'd get bread at Catalano's or Grimaldi's then pastries at Circo's on Knickerbocker. I still do this when I visit NY.
