Spoiler question-why were guys in the plane killed

I am reading the Godfather's revenge and I don't remember why specifically Michael wanted the guys in the plane that Nick Geraci was flying killed.

yes still it makes no sense because was Mike trying to get rid of them so that no could meddle in his affiars at all?
