NFL 2017

NFL 2017 - 03/10/17 04:19 PM

Now that Free Agency has begun, the calendar has turned on a new NFL season. There are plenty of intriguing stories with free agency: where will Tony Romo land, the dysfunction in Washington between the front office and Kirk Cousins, as well as the first of its kind (for the NFL) salary/pick trade between Cleveland and Houston.

The Browns now have 5 second round picks between the 2017 & 2018 drafts. I seriously doubt they will pay RGIII his roster bonus and I think that Osweiler will be on the Cleveland roster for no more than one year. I think they'll still make a play on Garoppolo. If they don't get him, then I think they'll draft a QB this year and have the assets to move up for the better QB class coming out in 2018.

Why or why do teams throw so much money at free agency? The return on the investment is almost nil. Look at the Patriots and Steelers who usually spend little in free agency and look at their records.

Goombah,
RG3's agent is gonna really earn his money this offseason. I see the OsWeiler deal working out in Cleveland. He's limited, but have him in for 2 years, at least for stability.

Oli,

Pats and Steelers have great fanbases and are well run organizations. They are the exceptions, other teams need big headlines, top draft picks or big free agent signings to energize the fans and sell tickets.

Getthesenets,

Are you a follower of CFB and/or the draft? Since '99 the draft is the only time us Browns fans can be optimistic. The Browns remind me a lot of how the Clippers were for years: always drafting high but never making good choices. It seems as if Garrett is the no-brainer pick. It is the Browns' luck that the time they have 1st pick is the year the QB class in questionable.

Goombah,

Not a big time college football guy,and I only pay attention to the draft when one team has a lot of picks. As Cleveland does.
Good comparison to the Clippers...

The advantage that the Browns have is that they have a fanbase that is as loyal as Pats or Steelers. So they have the patience to sit through bad seasons and still support the team as they are trying to right the ship.

Because I'm not knowledgeable about college football, I learn more by reading posts from guys who do. That's better than the way the draft coverage is on tv, where they show highlight reels of players against cream puff opponents on a loop...and build them up to be the next big thing.

Well Browns fans have had their patience tested for the past 10 years. They'll always retain a loyal core, but two things have happened. One is that a lot of fans have become apathetic. The constant turnover and owner incompetency will do that. Second there is an entire generation who know nothing about the Browns other than losing. I have a preteen son who has no interest in the Browns. Worse are 20-somethings who have $$ to spend but do not on the Browns.

The only cure for these woes is to win.

After ATL's historic superbowl collapse...winning QB Brady had his jersey stolen...

Just read that Tony Romo is going to be broadcasting, replacing Phil Simms.

AG,

So Romo is hanging it up and Cowboy sticks it to a Giant once again?
smile

As long as we're the last NFC East team to win the SuperBowl...it's all good.

Yup, Gets lol Not sure how Romo will do broadcasting but wish him luck.

We have the new receiver I keep hearing bad things about. Brandon Marshall. Hope he and "moody" Manning hit it off. Maybe we'll have a good year smile

Well, my Steelers drafted their edge rusher for the next ten years. Good choice.

I think the Browns are going to surprise us this coming season. Same for Jacksonville. Both made good picks so far, especially the Browns. I'm pleased that they had the discipline tonot draft another quarterback.

The Browns have has an uncharacteristically good draft so far. The Bears have taken their previous place as worst draft management.
