My team for cheering-on is the Villanova Wildcats. On Sunday, they broke a school record and posted their 26th victory of the season. Never been reached before in the school's 95 year basketball history. They are ranked # 6, and lost 3 games; two to Creighton and one to Syracuse when the Orange were healthy and undefeated. A few years back 'Nova lost to Mich. State in the semifinals. 1985 they were national champs, beating Georgetown in the finals. That was the first year I played an office pool and I won the pool despite picking Georgetown to win. When they are hot, they can pour in the 3's. Let's Go Nova, Let's Go. BTW, my daughter graduated from 'Nova, class of 2001.

I'm hoping for that second round match-up of St. Joe's and Villanova. It'd be a real dogfight.

I haven't looked at all the match up in brackets, but I heard some commentaries regarding not-so-good potential match-ups and I think this might be one. I know they don't want teams flying all over the country, but Villanova and St. Joe's play each other in the City 5 rivalry. Granted they each have to win Round 1, but I don't think they should be meeting in Round 2, regardless who wins.

I'm in deep to my bookmaker. A wannabe wiseguy.

MikeyO are you the wiseguy or the bookie, or both lol
As they say, "bet with your head, not over it".

The ESPN pseudo experts are saying there is really no difference between 1,2,3,4 seeds. I agree. My bracket will say so. So if I'm in accord with the "experts".......guaranteed losers.

Oh poop, Dayton knocks off Ohio State. I had OS going to the 16. I always seem to get lulled into picking Big Ten teams. But I did pick Harvard over Cincinnati. Smart guys over the thugs.

Re: 2014 March Madness - ESPN Tournament Challenge - 03/21/14 03:23 PM

I went 1-2 in the OT games last night, hitting only on St. Louis. NC State blew it, and St. Joe's has to be kicking themselves as they seemingly had the game under control with little time left.

Manhattan put up a great fight against Louisville, taking a five point lead with minutes to go, but Like Hancock showed that his Final Four performance was no fluke as he poured in 8 points in a minute. His three pointers went up with a lot of confidence and without hesitation. Some players fear and avoid the big moment while others welcome and embrace it.

So, far I only made two mistakes. Probably the best I ever done with this. Hopefully it continues all the way through

3 of 4 Final Four, still alive.....5 shots and he's still alive!

Re: 2014 March Madness - ESPN Tournament Challenge - 03/24/14 03:21 PM

Nobody wins the pool in the first round of the tournament, but many lose it in the first round.

Look out for Baylor as they had a couple of impressive games. They'll be a difficult matchup for anybody. Kentucky is at the top of their game too and they face a tough test against Louisville, which causes a civil war within the state.

Next weekend's game to watch in the first round is definitely MSU/Virginia.

Geoff, we have the same final four in the women's bracket and same match up in the finals with a different winner. Good luck.

They clobbered Creighton by 30. They must have a good defense to hold Creighton to 55 pts. and their offense isn't so bad either. Go Bears.

Congrats Lou. A 7 and 8 seed oin the final = 15. Highest combo ever. Those seed makers should be fired lol

No one picked these two teams. Yikes.

Re: 2014 March Madness - ESPN Tournament Challenge - 04/09/14 11:22 AM

Congratulations, Lou. We might as well just congratulate you at the beginning of these tournaments anymore.

And congratulations, Geoff, for winning the women's bracket. My wife, daughter and I went to Nashville on Friday on the spur of the moment to watch the Final Four games in the women's tourney. Alyssa Thomas, who led the Terps to the final four, went to our local high school and befriended my daughter when my daughter was little and going to basketball camps where Alyssa was a volunteer. My daughter texted her when we got there Friday night, and Alyssa invited us to the hoteel where the team was staying Saturday after practice. My daughter was introduced to the entire team and coaches, who could not have been nicer.

Anyhow, it is amazing when a school wins the national championship in men's and women's basketball in the same season. But Connecticut has done it twice now. And between them they are a perfect 13-0 in championship games.

Oddly enough UCONN and KY were 7 and 8 seeds, respectively, in the tournament, but they are arguably the two best NCAA programs in the past 20 years. I think that the men's tournament this year was one of the best ever.

Kly, cool stuff for your daughter...and you. Must have been an exciting weekend. Did you stop into the Ryman Auditorium? I was there on business once; a trade show at the Convention Center. I skipped out to tour the Ryman.

UConn; they are starting to take the shine off Duke, N.C., Kansas, L'ville. Go Huskies!

Thanks....It doesn't feel like much of a win when all my teams are gone before the Final Four.

Didn't stop at the Ryman, which was just across Broadway from the Bridgestone Arena where the games were played. We had a great time. I enjoyed more than my share of barbecue, and everyone in Nashville can play guitar...and play well.
