British Open - 07/19/06 03:59 PM

Who's gonna win? I know this question gets asked a lot but who do you take, Tiger or the field? How about when you got 100 grand on the line?

Don A,

I don't think Tiger has the game back in shape. Phil? maybe, but he might do a repeat of final round U.S. Open and be hacking out of the gorse all day.

Maybe it's time one of the young dudes steps up; Adam Scott, Trevor Immelman, Aaron Oberholser.

The Open.

I don't know why I added that pretentious comment, maybe for a sense of pride with the history of the tournament.

I've had it on the background all morning and I'm loving it. I like Faldo being grouped with Tiger. We'll see if that makes any headlines.

It's putting me in a rediculous golfing mood but my last two rounds have been stinkers and just don't feel able to adjust my game. Nothing feels right and I'm not sure why. Well I'm quite certain it's my head that isn't right, I've got some kind of sporting block.

Tiger v. Nick. Wouldn't a wrestling match on the green be fun!? The R&A would spit out their tea.

I played twice this past weekend, but only the second time out this year and the rust shows. My drives ranged from 25 yards to 250. Military Golf: Left, Right, Left, Right. We must Un-Funk Turi. Deep Breaths.

Personnaly I'm rooting for The Big Easy. But I hope Tiger is within striking distance the final 3 holes of the tourny. with him involved it is just more exciting

Tiger gets an eagle on 18 to give him 5 under for the first day. Ernie is 4 under, Phil is 3 under, and to round out the big 5, Vijay and Retief are 2 under. So far all have played pretty well. It would be nice to see all 5 in contention come Sunday.

What we haven't seen is Tiger in a real down-to-the-wire shootout in a major (unless I'm forgetting one). When he leads, he leads big and cruises. The only one who came close was Sergio a few years back at the PGA. I'd love to see Tiger and Ernie go toe to toe in a major. They've done it in Hawaii. Actually I'd love to see Fred Couples and Tiger down to wire.

Well if today is any indication as to how Tiger is going to play this weekend, I think he is going to run away with this one. Els and Retief ar elooking good so far also.

Wasn't there a real exciting showdown between Tiger and DiMarco a couple of years back? Maybe that wasn't a major?

well after today the top four look like some stiff competition. Woods, Els, Retief, and DiMarco.

They were tie and Tiger won in a playoff. I guess I was wrong about Tiger being in shape. His strategy put those other guys to shame. He didn't have to scramble at all. Phil the Shanker should take a lesson.

Re: British Open - 07/24/06 12:52 AM

Watching Tiger break down after sinking the last putt was one of the most touching moments I've seen in sports. After watching his "no-driver" strategy of this week (and how successful it was) I'd say without fear of argument that Woods is the best I've ever seen to play this game.

Too right SC on both points. I was almost in tears myself once I saw Woods' reaction. An incredible moment in sports history.

When Tiger first hugged Williams there was that moment when Williams was going to let go, but Tiger began sobbing and just hung on. It was very emotional. I was kind of surprise that his wife gave him a little peck on the cheek. I hope he got more than that later.
