It was 20 years ago today - 06/22/06 06:58 PM

The "Hand of God" was born on June 22th in 1986 at Azteca Stadium, in Mexico City.

Argentina's Diego Maradona, left, beats England goalkeeper Peter Shilton to a high ball and score his first of two goals in a World Cup quarterfinal in Mexico City, in this June 22, 1986 photo. Argentina won 2-1. Maradona acknowledged that he struck the ball with his hand in the famous "Hand of God" goal against England in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinals. Speaking on his local television talk show Monday night, Aug. 22, 2005, Maradona called one of soccer's most controversial goals "something that just came out of me. It was a bit of mischief."

...that the New York Mets beat The Chicago Cubs 4 - 2 on a complete game from Ron Darling and a two run homer by Lenny Dykstra, to give them 46 WINS and 19 losses at that point in the season.

Maradona's a cheating little bastard. Say what you want about him, cheating eliminates all talent.

Also the talent to cheat?

Re: It was 20 years ago today - 06/22/06 11:18 PM

The 'talent to cheat' is really non-existant, because if you had any talent, you wouldn't. Although Maradona was great, he cheated. Don't cry for me you cheaters is more appropriate.

Cheating scum, an Argentine player also fouled an English player which won Maradona the ball and to go on and score his second goal. Ah well, he later become addicted to cocaine and was obese.

Drugs?
Sure, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones are so healthful people, aren`t they?
But it doesn`t matter...Maradona is GOD! And everyone who gets angry with him is because they cannot have him playing in his team!

Atheist are people who don`t believe things they cannot see with their own eyes. But Maradona is a God you can see, he is for real. I`m sorry Capo, he is everyone`s god, and he is YOUR GOD too, no matter what you think or want, he is just your God and that`s out of the question! :p

The difference is that Jesuscrist WAS a lair, he didn`t even exist according to science matters. That "fat little cheating Argentinian dwarf" is GOD and you feel like going mad because you wish he had played for you! It`s called envidy!

2) Maradona was a great player, but I don't wish he was on my team.

3) Maradona is not God. I believe in God, but he's not Maradona. Pele was better anyway.

I want to ask you something;

Do you believe Maradona cheated? Also, why do you celebrate a goal that was obviously garnered by cheating? Last time I checked, football is called football for a reason.

1-Actually USA was playing much better than Italy, and Italy was a strong team before, I don`t know what happen with them this year.USA has Donovan, Reyna(argentinian), and other that made a good job.
2-I know you do, but you don`t want to admit it!
3-Maradona is everyone`s God, and he is YOUR GOD too. No matter what you say, that`s the fact and that`s it!If you say Pelé is better than Maradona, you don`t know ANYTHING about this life!Pelé is the KING, MARADONA IS GOD!
4-Maradona was clever enough to make the goal with his hand, Shilton was taller than him and he had ONE chance.
You are american(as far as I know), I don`t know why you seem to be angry. Yogi Barrabbas is from England and he takes this as a simple joke.
5-You have said so many times "Maradona is a drug addict", it is the only thing you can say and that`s it. Jim Morrison didn`t die for drinking water my friend! And he was a bad example to the people, he used to stop the concert after 5 minutes just because he liked to make chaos all around.
6-You attacked me so many times and I let you go.But this time, I don`t and you better cut this conversation because I am gonna be the one who will get "The last word", I am starting to hate you Don Andrew, you are always bringing yourself up in my posts.
7-It is an anniversary, not a big deal as you feel it is!

1. Simply ignore him/her.

2. Use the "Report Post" feature to notify a moderator that there is a problem going on.

He is thiner now! So what if he is fater or thiner? However, fater or thiner, he IS THE BEST. Remeber he skkiped 5 english players in his second goal. Pelé was unable to do it by himself! Pelé had 10 good players to help him. Maradona was the 11 players in ONE!!!!

Please define "real sport". To me "real sport" is one played or contested without objects (like balls) or judges (like gymnastics). Real sports are foot races, swimming races, boxing matches (knockouts) or wrestling matches. The more boundaries and judges you have, the less it is a sport and the more it is a contest or exhibition.

I told you, Pelé had good players to help him, so he could score many goals because he had the work done thanks to them. Maradona had to play ALONE. And Maradona scored goals in a way Pelé didn´t and skipped many players much better than Pelé. Pelé needed help and he was helped by his mates. Maradona didn´t need it, if he did or didn´t it doesn´t matter, Maradona did everything by himself. He did everything ALONE in the soccer field.

Don Andrew - that kind of comment is inexcusable here. No matter what the provocation you simply can't say that on the boards.

Don Pappo - you may want to tone down your brow-beating here. I've never heard of this soccer player until I read your posts, and he sure as hell isn't MY god. You made your point about how much you love this guy but stop beating a dead horse already.

It was the fault of the referee. He drew too many cards. They players didn't really play in a karate manner, they just played nasty (winning time, kicking balls away when the others had a free kick, ...)
