Shaun Alexander Named NFL MVP - 01/05/06 08:40 PM

Alexander got 19 votes, Peyton Manning 13, Tom Brady 10, and Tiki Barber 6.

Personally, I would have voted for Alexander, Barber, and Brady, in that order.

I'm not sure where I'd place Manning, but he's not in my top three, and I'm not even sure I'd have him as high as 4th.

Alexander was virtually a one man team on offense for Seattle and his unbelievable season led his team to an unbelievable season.

I place Barber second because altho his QB, Eli Manning, had a decent year, including some nice 4th quarter wins, it was only because he had Barber's great year to take the heat off of him.

Without Barber, Manning would have had to throw even more than he did, and with no Barber and Eli throwing 40 passes a game, I think the Giants would have finished somewhere around 6-10, maybe worse, and 7-9 or 8-8 if everything had broken exactly right for them.

Brady held the Pats together in an off year, and was certainly more valuable to his team than Peyton Manning, who had other outstanding offensive weapons, such as Edgarrin James and Marvin Harrison, was to his.

Without Brady, the Pats are just another team that would've gone somewhere between 6-10 and 9-7 or so depending on the breaks and probably out of the Playoffs, but if you put any decent to good quarterback on the Colts - I dunno, a Matt Hasselbeck, an Aaron Brooks, a Drew Bledsoe, a Kerry Collins, I think that with their defense and other weapons, the Colts go about 10-6 or 11-5 or so, and still win their division with ease.

I'm not surprised. I would have liked to have seen Barber or Manning get it but I knew Alexander would

Alexander was certainly deserving, as were others. He definitely was my best fantasy football player and helped me win some cash!

Yeah I've got no qualms with Alexander winning it. His record breaking TD season is just as equivalent to Mannings last year. I wouldn't go as far as saying they're virtually a one man team on offense though. Sure having an RB of that caliber helps everything else fit into place and gave Hasselbeck a lot one on one situations to throw too thus making his job easier. But he still did a great job and lost his starting receivers for a while.

At least the guy isn't going to whine like last year losing the rushing title by a yard to Barber.

Actually, didn't Alexander lose the 2004 rushing title to Curtis Martin by one yard?

Anyway, Shaun Alexander is deserving of his NFL MVP. Glad to see Big Stone Gap's own Tiki Barber getting some serious MVP votes this year.

Yup, my mistake.

The Seahawks running game is amazing. Not only Alexander running, but Mack Strong, the best blocking fullback, and Walter Jones and Steve Hutchonson, the two best blockers. Redskins ought to be careful

SA had a great year no doubt and deserves the award. One gripe - not with the award - is the WFAN blabbermouths Mike and the Mad Dog. When the Tiki v. Shaun topic came up they always jumped on SA's TD production. I don't think that should be a deal-maker. The Giants gave the ball to Brandon Jacobs to make the TD when Tiki could have also done it. I think the MVP should be more subjective or rely on more obscure stats like - how many times did your player keep a drive alive. How many long runs from scrimmage did he have that led to a score. What was the overall contribution to the offense. I don't know SA's stats, but there were games when TB was 60% of the offense.
