2005-06 NBA: Rookies Fantasy Game
This game is a little bit like Baseball's Diamond Daily, however it goes for the whole season and you can only use each rookie once per week.
It's one point per offensive stat, point rebound assist and most points win.
If there is interest I will start a league.

This actually looks like it might be interesting because of the "once a week" factor.
Set up a league. I'll play, altho I'd venture a guess that you and I will be the only ones.
I'm going to assume JG will also.
I'm at school right now, I'll get home around 7:00 and make one. You have to sign up at NBA.com though, its free and takes like 2 minutes.

I'm not promising anything -- it's bad enough I'm in 2 NBA games already. :p But
at least you can make a weeks' worth of picks at a time, so we'll see.....
Edit: Y'know what? Never mind - I just managed to spend 15 seconds making my picks for the week, so I think I can handle that!

Very good point.
Being that I just made this mistake I'm going to post it.
After you select your pick go to the bottom and select "enter pick" I thought I picked my guy but I never hit enter pick so it never went through.
I figure I will commish this league (Single A of commishing responsibilities until I get called up to the big times
)
With that being said, does anyone object to me doing a weekly update for say the first half of the season then updating it more as the season progresses?
with work in the morning it is almost impossible for me to guarantee a daily update but I'll try.

Sounds good. There are only 3 of us anyway (cuz everyone else is a WUSS apparently!) so weekly is fine... it's not like we can't check how we're doing on our own...

For some reason, I can't seem to access my picks
The link DM provided doesn't work for me anymore. Before, when I clicked on it, I was "welcomed", etc., and my team was right there.
Now, when I try the link, I'm no longer signed in. I tried my old login and waht I thought my password was, and that didn't work, so I did "forgot password".
They sent me a new one, and that doesn't work on this site, either. Can't log in.
However, yesterday I purchased the NBA.com audio feed of all the games ($19.95 for the season).
When I log into that with my new password it works, and then when I go to the site for the rookie game, it shows me as logged in, but I still can't access my team/picks in our league.
I'm confused....

Weird. Mine's working just fine.
Try clearing your Cookies and Cache and see if that helps...

When I use that link, it shows me logged in, but with no points and not in any league. In effect, not in the game.
How do I clear my cookies and caches and all that other good stuff?

Tools > Internet Options... >
1) "Delete Cookies..." button
2) "Delete Files..." button
Then close your browser and reopen it.
Hopefully that'll help. Tho you may have to log in again...

Very weird.
I did what you said, the went to the rookie game front page.
I tried logging in and couldn't.
Then I went to the shortcut on my dektop that i created last night for the NBA.com audio thing, and it allowed me to log in with the same user name and password that the rookie game didn't recognize.

log-in page ? I can never get into that, either (to update my profile) - it says I'm logged in, but never gets beyond the log-in screen.

Still can't get in.
using yourlink, it says "welcome paul blah blah blah", but doesn't gibe me a link to our league.
It just invites me to join or create a league.
As I said, I can join our league again with a different team name, but when I search for our league and then click on my team name, all it does is show me what it shows me when I click on your team or DM's.
Like I'm looking at someone else's team...can't make any picks or anything.

You did make picks for the rest of the week, right?
WEIRD - I was logged in with my email address, and could never access my profile. I just logged out to see if I could log back in (the chance I took to explore this issue), and decided to try my user name instead - and now I can go into my profile no problem. WTF? So - try the alternate log-in and see what happens. If you were using your email address, try your username - or vice versa...

Here's what I did, since I wanted to review my picks after seeing who was playing and getting minutes, etc.
The first 3 days I had Paul (25), Villanueva (17), and Simeon (0).
I picked 3 different guys for tonite, Sat, and Sun, so that's no problem.
I'm just gonna use my new team, paul 2650, from here on in, so we just have to remember to add 42 points to my score.

I don't know where your "+42 as plawrence" comes from, though, since the game says you got 59 in Week 1. Here's where we are now....

The day that I discovered that I couldn't access the game as plawrence, I had already made my pick for that day.
I was going to the site to change my pick.
So whatever day that was - Friday, it seems - I had two picks. My old pick as plawrence, and the new one I made for that day as paul2650.
I subtracted the 17 points from the 59 as plawrence because the later pick I made as paul2650 should be the one that counts.
I'm not even sure which one did better, BTW.

Nice pick last night, JG. Gonna be tough to beat you this week now.
But this game is all about matchups. It's easy enough to see who the top seven rookie scorers are. The hard (and fun) part is figuring out on which night to play which guy.
Hopefully, Williams will have as good a game for me the night I have him as he did for you last night.

Um, excuse me, Mr. "Lucky To Ever Win Anything Here", but my problem occured the 4th or 5th day of the first week, and while I was unable to correct it, I was able to bypass it by creating another entry.
If you were in the lead at that point, it wasn't by much, and I haven't missed any days nor am I offering any excuses for not winning.
So make sure you leave me out of this.
Now, if you want to talk about DM making excuses 'cuz he's losing, I'd absolutely agree.

I derive no pleasure from playing games that I know nothing about simply to earn "Uber Points" (Whatever they are).
If I
enjoy the game, I'll play it even if I do poorly (See three years of Yahoo Football and my lifetime W-L record of 16-26).
You play everything under the sun because of those stupid Uber Points (Whatever they are), so you're bound to luck into a few wins every now and then, particulalry because the fields are small and the other participants know very little about the particular sport involved either. :p
Maybe one of you can help me out with this.
I just had them reset my password, when I go to login I put in my name (I even tried with email address) and the new password and it goes to the same page with the fields blank

I'm actually enjoying this game very much.
Figuring out which seven guys to use each week and then figuring out how to plug each of them into a different day is a bit of a challenge.

Truthfully, JG......
Are you paying attention to match-ups when you make your picks, or are you just happy to figure out a way to get each of the seven guys you want every week slotted into a different day?
If it's the latter, then this game is mostly luck, 'cuz I have a feeling that we're gonna pretty much wind up with the same seven guys every week.
If it's the former, I better start paying closer attention, 'cuz I'm not really considering matchups.

The thing that makes it so hard to have a perfect week is that if you're perfect on, say, Monday & Tuesday and then the guy you had Monday has a better day on Wednesday and the guy who had the second best score on Monday has a better day than the guy who had the second best score on Wednesday, then you're not perfect anymore.
Did that make sense?

Well, probably not any more. I could be close to high score for the week even with the 5 pts:
26 Paul - He's likely to score higher on another night
20 Frye - Already gave me 39 pts on Monday
20 Deron Wms - Some people could've had him
18-19 - Only Jasikevicius was probably taken from this group
14-16 - Head, Bogut are the only "better" ones in this group
8 - Poor showing for May & Stoudamire
Point being, not too many people probably scored too high tonight, so it's not so bad I guess...
Besides, I'm not worried about topping the leaderboard, just you. :p

With only three out of seven days gone, leading the pack doesn't mean all that much.
I still have Paul to use yet, and Villaneuva, from whom I will hopefully get more than 5 points.
As I said in another post, there doesn't seem to be more than 8-9 guys that we all seem to use every week. It's just a matter of picking the right guy on the right day.

I've said from the beginning that this game is not about
who you pick, but
when you pick them.
This becomes even more obvious when you examine the lack of diversity in the players we pick.
Including missed days, we have made a total of 201 picks between the three of us since the game began.
With seven days in a week, and the occasional day on which none of the top players are playing, there are eight players who account for 79.6% of our picks, and only four players who account for just over half (51%) of our selections.

Villanueva is killing JG. He's been hurt by Head and Calderon, and helped a lot by Robinson.
PL has been hurt by Frye and Bogut, and helped by Paul and Jaskivicious.
DM did great with Williams the one time he took him, as well as Villanueva. He's been hurt by Frye, Head, Calderon, and Granger.
So the question then becomes, "Is picking the guy on the right day a matter of luck or skill?"
Well, I would guess this:
When it comes to those top five guys (I'm including Williams, who DM, inexplicably, has picked only once) we obviously have to pick which day we use him.
I know what I look at, and sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong.
When it comes to the next group - the 2 or 3 guys we use to fill out the rest of the week - the same thing applies.
So the answer is, "I don't know."
Very interesting plaw, I'll have to look at it more closely when I have the time.

Has Villanueva done enough to prove that he is the true R.O.Y. or will he have to score 60 points and grab 15 rebounds? Cuz this kid has a bright future and he may have games like that, but prolly not this season.

You do have a point certainly Geoff, but there are twelve games left in the season and if C.V. can manage to keep near 15.0 and 10.0 I think that he will win. If not, (although I think he deserves and should win it, but I have been called a bit of a homer
) it will take something spectacular for him to get legitimate consideration.

Fuhgeddaboutit.
There's no such thing as "consideration" or what have you. If people put him third on their ballot, does that mean they "considered" him?
Yeah, he's a good player that I wish the Nets had. Yeah, he might finish second if he finishes the season strong.
But here's how I predict the voting will go:

Bah...the kid has the game of his life (granted The Raptors lost) and he still won't get any respect. By consideration I mean legitimate consideration as the best rookie this year. Although I know he probably won't win as I said there are still 12 more games left in the season and that is more than enough time to take Villanueva over the hump. I just hope that he can play consistently well enough to win R.O.Y. but I know you guys are most probably right and he will finish second or third in the voting.

This one looks like it will go right down to the wire.
Plus, it's getting more interesting with a lot more rookies getting significant playing time now, so there are more guys to choose from.
Of all the stupid "minor" games we have - even in the major sports, like Diamond Daily, or the NFL and NBA "Pick 'Em" games, for some odd reason I really like this one.
