Speaking of the Super Bowl, this is the next-to-last year you'll be familiar with the Roman Numerals. Although the NFL will probably go with XXXIX for 39, the 40th Super Bowl will be known as Super Bowl XL.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/05/04 10:50 PM

I wonder if they're going to try to be clever with Super Bowl XL. Maybe they're going to call it the "extra large" super bowl or the "super-sized" super bowl.

Super Bowl 50 (Super Bowl L) will look stupid.

Can you imagine, in the year 3854, Super Bowl MDCCCLXXXVIII?

Yeah, what's harder to imagine is the year 3452790348573489057129083427589076890379087213890 4790857890347548903759034876980675096730294573408 9579034875389067590763489024790749057840389573489 057

Dont mean to get depressing, but you can guarantee that by then the world will have been destroyed, or the human race will have been wiped out, or football wont exist.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/06/04 03:22 AM

The Eagles vs. The Patriots with Da Birds avenging their early season loss.

Of course I am biased in my pick of the Eagles though. This week is their tough game against the Packers, if we can get past them and suffer no more injuries we will win easily against either the Panthers or the Rams being the game is in Phila.

The AFC - I really like Tenn. but they are banged up pretty good with both McNair and George hurting. I am not that impressed with NE's offense but they should have enough to win this week and the winner of the Indy and Chiefs game I just think will have a hard time winning in New England in the middle of January. And outside the Eagles the Chiefs are my team. I would love to see Vermeil come back to play Phila in the Super Bowl but ....

In any event I just don't see that one dominant team - the one you can't see losing so anything is possible.

Besides as long as the Ravens are out of it I am happy. Brian Billick is a load.

Philly is the best NFC team but their one problem is getting to the superbowl. I bet they blow it in the championship game.

I think the two teams that make it to the Super Bowl will be good. And remember what Tom Landry said, "Luck is the residue of design."

I believe it was Branch Rickey who said that.

Check here for that and some other really great quotes by "The Mahatma"

I know it's a longshot but Green Bay over the Pats.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/08/04 07:56 PM

The only thing I think will happen in terms of the matchup is that I DON'T think we'll see a Super Bowl rematch of any Super Bowl of the past few years. That means no Green Bay-New England, St. Louis-Tennessee, or St. Louis-New England.
Posted By: raggingbull2003

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/08/04 11:29 PM

If the colts cant pull it off, I would hope to see a Tenesee-St. Louis rematch. One where the outcome is the same only this time, I bet the Rams would be the underdog.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/08/04 11:35 PM

Except Tennessee won't win this week because they're too banged up. Sorry, won't happen.

My prediction's holding up so far.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/11/04 04:49 AM

Ironicallly enough, i bet the matchup most people were hoping for, was Rams vs. Titans. They were both eliminated today. Strange....

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/11/04 05:12 AM

I disagree with you there. I think more people wanted the Packers in it. Of course, I don't think they'll make it right now, but something in my gut is telling me they will, so i won't be surprised if they do.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/11/04 06:31 AM

Colts and Eagles... With the Colts winning. Manning is really pulling his team this year; he's nearly unstoppable. Twenty-two completions out of twenty-six attempts and five touchdowns against the Broncos? Can't beat that.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/12/04 04:18 PM

I can't believe Favre and co. couldn't pull through but I guess the better team won. I think Philly can keep it up and will defeat Carolina. If Manning plays the way he did yesterday the Colts will beat N.E. and will win the Super Bowl against the Eagles.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/18/04 04:12 AM

I'm with you, DJ, on Peyton. Something tells me he's going to take 'em all the way. N.E.'s defense is pretty tough, so I could be proven wrong tomorrow. But if anybody can do it, it's Manning. He broke and holds all the QB records for my beloved SEC team, the Tennessee Vols. I suppose on account of that, I'll be cheering the Colts on (since my Titans didn't get it done this year ). On the NFC side of the coin, I feel like the Eagles will probably take the Panthers. So, I'm hoping the Superbowl will be the Eagles VS. the Colts...battle of the QBs!

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/18/04 05:34 AM

Well I just got off the phone with my friend and we're both picking the Colts, & the Eagles to go.

Although we both hope the Patriots beat the colts.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/18/04 09:23 AM

Those picks are very good, Iceman, but keep in mind that NOTHING is certain in the NFL this year! Who could have seen what became of this year's successes and downfalls? I still don't know what to expect, and we're down to the last 4 teams. I guess only time will tell. All I know is that it will be an exciting finish, and that the networks are definitely getting their money's worth with these playoffs.

Yes I'm rooting for New England Patriots now. These are the two teams I wanted to to be in the superbowl.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/19/04 05:52 AM

I'm going for the Panthers simply because I hate the Pats and they kicked out my team in an unfair game. Seriously, if that game had been in Indianapolis and out of the snow...

...the Pats would be DEAD.

Let's go Carolina!

Unfair game?

Seriously AL it was a very fair game, it's all about home field advantage. If the Colts had played better during the regular season then things might be different.

And I just realized I have a very bad memory. I noticed in the thread titled Conference Championships. I picked the Patriots, & the Eagles to win. In this thread I pick the Colts, & the Eagles. I'm completely contradicting myself.

Damn I hate getting old.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/19/04 07:09 AM

I said borderline unfair... It was fair, I know, as in terms of rules and the way they played. I didn't mean it like that. But I'm saying it's almost not, seeing as the Pats are good in snow and it's their speciality, etc. There's a difference between a home field advantage and a New England team playing against an Indianapolis team in the snow. Just saying, if it was in Indy, the Pats would be DEAD.

Well not to be nit-picky AL but you did say unfair, & nothing about borderline. That's why I responded the way I did.

Although I can see where you're coming from.

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/20/04 05:34 AM

My pick is still holing up. SuperBowl XXXVIII is now the battle of the Pats and Cats. Is it just me or do I smell another championship coming to New England.
Posted By: raggingbull2003

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/20/04 12:03 PM

I dont smell that dude. This time they arent the underdog, and I dont think its their turn.
Posted By: Don Jasani

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/21/04 04:54 AM

I don't smell it either. Go Carolina!
Posted By: Caporegime

Re: Superbowl XXXVIII - 01/21/04 05:58 AM

Judging by the way the Panthers have played in the playoffs, I would say that the Super Bowl will actually go through Carolina this year. I never thought I would say that in this decade. I never really took a liking for Brady, and I think he gets more credit than he deserves. The defense is what got New England there more than anything, and the team that has the best defense will win the Super Bowl.

I am not a huge fan of either team, but I will be going for Carolina. I'm just glad those damn Eagles lost the NFC Championship game (for the 3rd straight year).

I put borderline quite a few times in other threads... Just didn't in that one.

Carolina is good and they are going to win the championship.
