That sounded very racist.

There's a difference between being pro-white [as I am] and anti-black. I can see if you said "I hate being a thug/gangsta" but you said you hated being black. Are you pro-white or anti-black? You sound anti-black to me.

'k, continue on with the thread.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 06/22/04 02:50 PM

While I am not racist either, I do agree with DV. Being a lowlife inner city thug in this new game is not very appealing to me. If you read the dialogue from the missions that are located in the link, you can see that the word homie is said about a hundred times. I have a feeling that that will get annoying very quick.

Thanks for the link DV. The improvements on the game are gonna be awesome...

Oh, no doubt it's going to be annoying -- and I do not want to be a "thug" either. But he said "because I don't wanna be black" not "I don't wanna be a thug."

I just wanna be Tommy Vercetti.

This is how people like Pat ruin my life and drive me to the brink of insanity. Now I have to be some thug who somehow runs casinos with his "niggas". No more basking in the life of the mafia.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 06/22/04 05:46 PM

Yeah, I'm just busting his non-existent balls. I'd rather be white on the game as well, but what could ya do.

However, I think it'd be boring after three installments still being in the Mafia. I love the mob stuff, too -- but the game is Grand Theft Auto, not Mafia. I think this may be an interesting turn; just to experiment and change things up a bit.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 06/23/04 03:25 AM

I agree with JJ. No mob is making this game more and more into a stupid gangland inner-city ghetto warfare thing, which I don't like. I might not be buying San Andreas.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 06/23/04 03:40 AM

I wish you all would stop your bitching. It's a fucking black guy and it's not going to change, and it's not like you HAVE to buy this game. Rockstar is not grabbing you by the balls until you buy it. It's your choice. You haven't even played the game, so you don't know if it's bad. No complaining is going to make the character white. Stop being pussies about it and move on with our lives. -Pat

The games features well makes up for its character, which in my opinion dosent matter. The mob is still in the game too, Don salvatore Leone from GTA3 is in it.

Really I don't care who the main character is. I am a loyal GTA fan and will be buying it.

It's only available on the Playstation2 console
The release dates are explained here
The game's storyline is explained here
No loading times in the game except when entering buildings
The art team has hidden many goodies for fans to find (stuff that you see on the Tricks page for Vice City, those types of things) *NEW*
It takes place in the early 90s

Cities and Maps

The game takes place in the fictional state of San Andreas
This state has three cities explained here
Each city is the size of Vice City, meaning the entire game will be four to six times larger than Vice City
San Fierro will have many hills, and be driving based
You can drive from Los Santos, through the countryside, up a mountain and into San Fierro, then onto Las Ventura
Driving through the desert will be alive with weird things to see
There will be more buildings you can enter
Los Santos is a small part of the main map, and in the bottom-right corner
Los Santos takes up 1/5th of the entire map *NEW*
San Andreas has its own version of Hollywood called Vinewood *NEW*

Graphics

The graphics engine has been tweaked, not changed
There will be smog effects in Los Santos
Real-time reflections on cars, mirrors, and windows
Radial lighting which gives realistic shadowing
Soft-shadow lighting for interiors
Unique models for objects for night and day to add more realism
Able to say four times further into the distance than in Vice City

There is 'rag-doll' phsyics, or 'impact animation' (adds realism)

Eat too much and you will become fat and be made fun of
Work off the fat by going to the gym to exercise
You can rob homes with careful planning
More new mini jobs such as taxi driving, etc
Anything done outside of a mission can change your abilities, appearance, and progress
Hundreds of different skills to learn
'Dynamic Difficulty' changes the difficulty of the gameplay to match your skill
You can recruit gang members, and use them to do four person drive-by shootings
Ability to swim
Recruit your own gang members to use in missions *NEW*

Your looks will change how people interact with you

At least once every few days you will have to eat *NEW*

Weapons

Carl can use dual pistols, and other weapons
Improved gun targeting system
More hand to hand fighting techniques available

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/01/04 11:15 PM

This game is gonna rock. The new features are incredible, even though you could change clothes in Vice City. That isn't a new feature.

But seriously, who cares about being black or a "thug"? I've already accepted the fact that no one can be better than Ray Liotta's badass Tommy Vercetti.
Posted By: Signore Sole Aumentante

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/02/04 10:06 PM

The race is a big problem with this game. I'm not anti-black as long as they don't "diss" on Germans or Italians, the great white races.

But in this game, I want to be an Italian mobster, not a black thug. How can going from Italian mobster to gang punk gonna be fun?

Hopefully, there will be major requests for Tommy Vercetti eith Ray Liotta back, and they will make the game a choice between Vercetti and the thug.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/03/04 01:07 AM

this game is gunna be amazing, just that I dont really like how the main character is black. It ruins the game for me. Call me a racist as much as you want, but I dont like the fact that Im gunna be controlling a black guy and commiting crimes as one. Just doesnt appeal to me.

Great white races? :p They didn't look too great at the end of WW II.

There won't be another Vercetti version. It was made for the Scarface anniversary. -Pat

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/04/04 03:05 AM

Of course there won't be a Vercetti version soon. If anything, GTA 3 will be followed up, unless they go further back into 70's or before.

This sounds amazing.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/06/04 10:04 AM

I'm gonna enjoy the ability to 'swim'. heh.

It got rather irritating when you died when wading into 2-foot deep pools of water in the previous games.

The stamina system also has me curious. You need to eat to stay active and fit, yet if you consume too much you get overweight and slow down. I hope this doesn't get too hard to keep track of...

However I am looking forward to the new aspects of this game. There's supposedly going to be a new power scheme in effect.. such as gaining interest in organizations and owning major casinos in the Vegas imitation city. I'm anxious to see how you gain more power steadily without just killing everyone to do it.

This looks like it has the potential for a next-generation crime videogame.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/06/04 09:31 PM

All these new features sound nice and everything, but the only thing I am truly looking forward to is the immense size of San Andreas. Just thinking of all the territory I wil have to explore is getting me excited. And in more ways than one.

Sweet Jesus. Look at the pic in the bottom left corner. Nothing like a drive by with the niggas while listening to a rap station.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/08/04 03:35 PM

Out of all the pics, the one with the guy looking at his poker hand is exciting me the most. While you guys are busy exploring the streets and shooting pedestrians, Im afraid I wont be able to get away from the tables.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/08/04 04:20 PM

Actually, I think there is nothing better than listening to Double Cleff FM and composing a drive-by, but thats just me.

Gosh, this game needs to come on. While I won't be gambling all the time, I'll be doing a bit. And I'm tired of playing 3 and Vice City, I need some fresh meat!

Yeah that map picture couldn't be even close to real. The articles report that San Andreas will be one huge state, with each of the 3 cities being about the size of the entire Vice City itself.. making the entire game just over three times as large as Vice City.

definitely looking good

There is countryside with rednecks/farms.

Along with a desert AND mountain.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/16/04 06:24 PM

When this months Game Pro came in yesterday it said that the cities were not the size of Vice City, as a matter of fact the city of Los Santos is four times the size of Vice City.

Game Pro Magazine: September 2004

Quote:
The city of Los Santos alone is fur times the size of Vice City, which is pretty scary considering that their are two other cities and even larger deserts and badlands connecting them for you to explore.

Voice talent and licensed music is not yet finalized, but you can expect a glitzy announcement coming in the next few weeks...
Pick up September 2004's Game Pro for the whole article or it might be avalible online. I'm not sure though...

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/27/04 04:34 AM

PSM2 Magazine (UK) have released a 4-page GTA San Andreas feature. The feature focused mainly on mission scripts, from the demo they were shown by Rockstar.

If you were to make the two stand side by side, CJ would make Tommy look like a cartoon
- Playstation Magazine UK

Some minor details were released:

After the logo screen loads up, a large map sparks up, with options for Select, Options, Audio and Display.
The map was "an approximately America shaped large, fat, empty, beige shape, save for a square in the bottom right corner, occupying less than a quarter of the total map available. This was Los Santos"
A haircut doesn't come cheap, at $500
In the mission 'Menace', it takes three passes before all of the Ballas are face down on the sidewalk.

PSM2 also promised a huge feature in next months issue.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/29/04 03:53 PM

New details about San Andreas emerge, as Australian magazine GamesTM publish a twelve-page preview.

The article focuses on the linking of cities, and the areas between those cities, i.e the countryside and the twelve small towns.

So if you follow a pedestrian, say in the morning he gets up, goes out of his house, you'll see that they have a destination to go to, they go to work, go to the store, meet up with a girl..
- Jeff Castenada, Rockstar Games

The change between city and countryside is gradual.
The air in Los Santos has a bright, gritty feel, and occasional bursts of rain; San Fierro is foggy; Las Venturas has clear air and harsh lights; the countryside has a warmer, more natural vibe to it.
The game has an improved use of partical effects. Exhaust smoke, tyres kicking up dirt, clouds of smoke when you stand on the brakes, and sparks flying from bullets.
Carjacking animations have improved. Rather than pulling the driver out of the vehicle, CJ opens the door, wacks him in the face, and throws him onto the road.
Country music is confirmed and will probably be picked up through radio stations in the countryside and small suburban towns
Kendall is angry with CJ because he wasn't around to help the family.
The number of recorded stats has increased. There will be a stat for just about everything you do; driving motorcycles, driving cars, swimming, running, sprinting and so on.
Pedestrians call obese Carl a 'fat ba*tard'. Even your own gang members say "dude, you need to lose some weight".
The pedestrian AI has improved greatly. You may see two pedestrians walking down a street, holding hands. If you break them apart, they'll react, and hold hands again.
Each pedestrian lives a different life. You can literally 'stalk' a pedestrian, watch he/she get out of their house, goto a shop, meet up with a girl, and go home again (for example).
Mt. Chilliad casts a massive shadow. All shadows are drawn by radiosity lighting, which covers the entire map.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/29/04 05:49 PM

Courtesy of Gamespot.com:

You'd be hard-pressed to find a game more eagerly anticipated than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. From the information on the game that's trickled out so far, it seems that San Andreas will continue to evolve the simple but ultimately revolutionary free-roaming mission-based system that was introduced in GTA III. But Rockstar North is aiming to do more than simply offer the same kind of experience we've played before in the upcoming San Andreas. The game will take a dramatic departure from the previous entries in the series and will borrow liberally from both traditional Japanese dating sims and turn-based strategy games to create a new gameplay hybrid that--OK, no. Rockstar North is savvy enough to know that it can't rest on its laurels, but the team isn't insane either.

Oh God, my dignity! My precious, precious dignity!
San Andreas is being crafted to be an ambitious entry in the franchise, even by Grand Theft Auto's own revolutionary standards. While the core experience will stick close to Rockstar's winning formula of gritty criminal mayhem, San Andreas will also feature a host of new gameplay features that will make the world you'll explore even more interactive. Over the next few months, we'll be taking a look at these new features, and we'll be sharing new information and assets with you as well.

The first feature we'll be looking at is San Andreas' food mechanic, which will require you to keep your virtual alter ego, CJ, in good physical condition by tracking down some choice grub. The basics of the mechanic are simple: When CJ is hungry, a message will appear onscreen alerting you to his need for some chow. If you choose to ignore this missive, his energy level will start to decrease, and a host of other bad things will begin to happen. Superficially, your boy will get skinny and look generally emaciated, resulting in the ill-fitting of his clothes, which is hardly the look you want to have when trying to earn respect on the streets.

As if this wasn't bad enough, you won't just look weak. Your skinny butt will be unable to lift boxes or punch with any kind of force, thus ensuring many a beat-down in hand-to-hand fights. Along the same lines, you can say goodbye to speed and stamina, which will affect your performance as you swim, cycle, or run through the game.

To keep yourself from looking like Snoop Dogg's sickly cousin, you'll have to seek out places to chow down. We've been hipped to a few of the locales in Los Santos, the LA-inspired city in the state of San Andreas, where CJ will be able to get his food on. As with the previous GTA games, you can expect the food service establishments in San Andreas to mirror real-life locales--but with satirical twists.

Even supermodels have to work.
To wit, three of the franchise restaurants in the game are Cluckin' Bell, Well Stacked Pizza, and Burger Shot. Cluckin' Bell is the obligatory chicken shack that you'd find in most any civilized town. The Bell's menu is all about chicken, and it features such specialties as the Cluckin' Big Filet Burger and the Cluckin' Huge Double Filet. There's also a wings-pieces bucket and a "fowl wrap" burrito. Well Stacked Pizza is a pizzeria whose menu includes such pie variations as The Buster, The D-luxe, and The Double D-luxe. Finally, Burger Shot will offer delicacies such as the Double Barreled Burger, for those craving a regular dose of ground beef.

The restaurants are given an extra touch of realism, and it's a touch that's no doubt unpleasant for some. The employee uniforms for Cluckin' Bell and Burger Shot are of the fantastically demoralizing variety that anyone who's worked in fast food knows and loathes. However, if you're on the go (as any good gangsta should be, since sit-down meals beg for assassination attempts) and you don't want to hit up one of the above establishments, you can always stop by one of the vending carts that you'll find peppered throughout the city. An added bonus is that, based on our screenshot, it appears said carts are manned by moonlighting supermodels--which is never a bad thing.

Now, while it's clear Rockstar wants you to keep CJ fed in the game, just chowing down on anything and everything isn't going to do you any favors either. You obviously don't want CJ getting freakishly skinny and weak, but, at the same time, you don't need his morbidly obese butt rolling down the streets either. Each of the menu items we've mentioned has a specific caloric value that will affect how much CJ's energy and fat levels will increase. Finding the right balance between the two is a must, because eating too much can have some unpleasant results.

I'm not fat, I'm big-boned!
First and foremost, you will become fatter and fatter, resulting in the unpleasant sight of CJ bulging out of his clothes. Your tough saunter will become a waddle, and you won't be able to put your arms by your side. To drive the point home, you'll notice CJ struggling to catch his breath when standing still. If you let CJ reach obese proportions, expect the extra pounds to impact everything he does that involves physical exertion, such as lifting, climbing, swimming, cycling, running, and so on. You'll even find that some actions will be impossible to perform once CJ balloons up enough. His reaction time will be slow when fighting, and his pudgy bod will make a target so big your grandmamma could hit it.

To add insult to injury, expect to see non-player-character reactions to you change depending on your appearance. So plan on being taunted and not having much success with the ladies if you're too tubby. There really is nothing worse than being verbally abused by bandanna-wearing gang members in your own hood. Seriously. Worse still, if your rotund avatar has too much to eat, he'll just throw up, which isn't great either, because the money you spent on food will have gone to waste, and you'll be unable to buy more food for a while.

So what do you do to ensure that you'll be in tip-top shape? Eat properly, and wisely avoid binges. And, when in doubt, work out. While we can't go into too much detail on the game's exercise system just yet, we will say that, like the food mechanic, exercise seems like a simple gameplay addition at first but features a nice bit of depth to it. The benefits to having a healthy, fit CJ are pretty obvious. In peak condition, CJ will be faster and stronger. Additionally, he'll have more stamina and will demonstrate a quicker recovery time.

Hey, hey, hey, it's Faaaat... no, that's way too easy a shot.
The key thing to note is that skinny doesn't necessarily mean fit. You'll have to manage CJ's development of fat and muscle to have him be in optimal physical condition. Once you understand how the system works, you'll be able to have a custom CJ that you can physically tailor at your whim. For example, you can have CJ be relatively thin and possess little stamina, but you can also have him exercise and build up his strength to the point that he hits like a tank. The system appears to feature some nice, subtle touches that will affect your experience in the game based on how other characters react to CJ's overall appearance. The potential fat and muscle combinations can make for some very interesting looks for CJ.

While there's no word on how much of San Andreas' food will be Atkins-friendly, the food system seems like it could be an interesting addition to a series already known for quirky but compelling features. The character development and maintenance mechanics we've discussed here are far more complex than in the previous Grand Theft Autos, and they're frankly pretty innovative for the action genre in general. (How many games let you gain and lose weight?) We'll have more on GTA: San Andreas in the weeks to come. Until then, check out nine exclusive screenshots on the game's screen index page.

Here's the link for anyone who wants to check out the screens to this article, cuz I don't know how to post pictures. Gamespot.com - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas preview (PS2)

To go along with those screens....

"To a certain degree, it's almost impossible for a game as highly anticipated as GTA: San Andreas to fail. The appearance of a single screenshot, detail, or even the smallest rumor engenders a feeding frenzy you don't often see outside of a school of starved piranha."
- GameSpot.com

When previews come, they certainly do come big. Gamespot has spared no expense in treating us to one heck of a preview this time round.

Much like the IGN preview that we reported on earlier today, this huge 6-page preview looks at some of the new features in San Andreas - as well as the bits improved upon from previous games.

From weight training to amazing new visuals, here's some of the highlights of this immense preview:

Carjacking has gotten a whole lot tougher. No longer will civilians just give up their wheels to a wandering thug.
In response to this, CJ has a variety of ways to pursuade drivers into surrendering their vehicle. The most interesting method so far? Smashing the guy's head off of the dashboard. It seems to work quite well.
Missions will be more open-ended then in Vice or GTA3, blurring the lines between when you're on a mission and when you're not.
Stats have a whole lot more meaning now. The more you shoot, the more accurate you become. The more you find yourself behind the wheel of a car, the more skilled you become at driving, and so on.
In addition to building up strength at the gym, you can also learn new fighting techniques (think True Crime). Depending on where you are in SA, the fighting techniques you learn will vary.
Speaking of fighting, you can now lock onto opponents during hand-to-hand combat. This makes it much easier to bust up a few faces and break a few jawbones... not that we approve of that sort of behaviour, of course. CJ can now block attacks in melee combat, as well.
The Police chopper searchlight now serves a much more important purpose. When shining down on you, you'll find that the searchlight impaires your ability to see clearly, making it harder to drive and shoot.
San Andreas will include tons of licensed music, similar to Vice City. You can expect more of it, too, since there are quite a few radio stations available throughout SA.

In addition to this massive article, Gamespot has also released some astounding new screenshots.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 07/31/04 02:32 AM

Heres IGN's review...

After being treated to a live demonstration of San Andreas at Rockstar's new New York HQ, IGN brings us yet another exclusive look at the latest GTA installment.

The article contains never before seen screenshots and all new information, focusing on 4 new features (either brand new or improvements on existing ones) that are bound to make San Andreas just as revolutionary -- if not moreso -- than it's predecessors.

"In the case of Rockstar's October-bound Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the pressure and expectations of its fans don't seem to compare to the strain that the developers are putting on themselves. Determined to create a product so far beyond what people are anticipating, they're working tirelessly day and night to ensure that it's not only the best Grand Theft Auto we ever seen, but also the single best videogame we've ever played."
- IGN.com

Here's a few highlights of the article:

Much like hairstyles, tattoos will be available to customize the look of CJ.
Depending on where you are in San Andreas, the style of tattoos will change.
You can use the right analog stick to move the camera -- both in vehicles and on foot.
When using a gun, the right analog stick lets you aim with any and all ranged weapons.
You no longer have to stay in a fixed position while aiming.
You can aim with the R-Stick while running and strafing with the Left analog stick.
You can look in any direction, even when you're driving.
Cars get dirty (even rust), and in turn you can now take em' through the car wash.
Gangs now sport their own "social" clique. Have a good enough relationship inside the gang and they'll always be watching your back.
Gangs are now smarter and have improved tactics, and act according to the situation they're in. What might've gotten you out of rival turf once may not work a second time.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 08/17/04 05:28 PM

Finally some scans of the city San Fierro.......

The new San Fierro information comes from the October issue of the german magazine Play the Playstation. It is being released this Friday. The highlights:

There are 150 core missions.
Golden Gate Bridge is called the "Gant" bridge.
There is a district which is very reminiscent of "Doherty", a place in San Francisco which got hit by an earthquake in 1989.
There is a hippie festival in San Fierro by the name of "Hushbury & Garcia Joint Festival".
Weather will be very specific. It can be raining in one place, sunny in another.
San Fierro will introduce the character Cesar.
When talking to people, you have a choice of dialogue you can browse through.
You can install nitro boost on your car, which when activated will speed up your car considerably and present you with a blur effect, similar to the one in NFS: Underground.
Chinatown is in San Fierro.
In Chinatown you will encounter the Triads, and you will work for a blind guy by the name of Wu Zi Mu. One of his tasks for you is to rescue fugitives in a container. (connected to human trafficking)

New screenshots include:

A huge never before seen artwork of a guy in a black suit, wearing sunglasses. Assisting him is another person, in the same clothing, with a golden earring. This must be our first look at Wu Zi Mu.
A "VW Bully" with a peace symbol.
CJ in a blue sports car under a sign "Hushbury & Garcia Joint Festival".
CJ with 2 guns and an afro behind a red ferrari. There is an open garage with a sign "Transfender".
CJ in a boot wih two motors under a giant bridge called "Gant bridge".
A GT-40-like red sports car with white racing stripes. In the caption: "You can also steal a cable car" (which is shown behind the sports car).
A street with 6 cars on it, in the background is a giant bridge.
CJ on a motorbike with a yellow/black "1" painting. The bike looks awesome, you can see every single cogwheel. And there is a police helicopter above CJ.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 08/30/04 05:32 AM

Guys im starting to go crazy in anticipation

I know what your all thinking. "Man this kid has no life." But when it comes to the GTA series, for some reason I go nuts before every release. The next month and a half will be the longest ever. But of course thats what I said about the same time last year.

Electronic Gaming Monthly's latest issue is very nice with a great preview article for San Andreas. Most of my questions were answered about the game in the article. There's a lot of information about the game in the article. It was money well spent if you want to know if not everything about the game. I can't wait for the release now.

This game is shaping up to be great.. The one thing they seem to be keeping under wraps is 'Las Venturra', the Las Vegas imitation city.

That's probably the one I'm looking forward to the most, with the ability to play cards and gamble and own casinos. The previews don't seem to want us to know much about that yet.

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 09/25/04 01:30 AM

The latest article in EGM went in to moderate detail about Las Venturas. You can play a lot of games and such in the casinos, and most of the casinos you can enter. What disapointed me was that table poker such as Texas Holdem was not listed as one of the games. The only kind of poker they had was video poker. Im pretty pissed about that.

yeah.. doesn't sound too great. I'm a pretty big poker fan. Hopefully the rest will have some good development. Thanks for the information

Re: SAN ANDREAS IMPROVEMENTS - 09/29/04 11:07 PM

I don't understand why people have a problem with playing an inner-city thug. I mean the last two GTA "heroes" were friggin thugs, so whats the difference?

Besides, I give Rockstar Games for trying something new instead of being way too formulaic that has occured to some hit videogame series. Besides, from what I've read and understood, there will be references/homages to such gangster movies we dig like CARLITTO'S WAY, CASINO, GOODFELLAS(especially in a mission where you have to sneak into someone's house and snipe the snitch or whatever without waking up the neighbors)...

But also it will cover the "black gangster" films that were so dominant in the late 80's/early 90's like DO THE RIGHT THING(not really gangster, but often associated with the genre for some reason.), MENACE II SOCIETY, FRIDAY(a comedy but again placed with this group. Beats me as well), and of course the Oscar-nominated BOYZ N THE HOOD.
