"Rusty could've been boss, he should've been."

"Rusty could've been boss, he should've been." - 08/30/15 10:02 PM

Does anyone have a problem with this quote? Johnny says it at his daughter's wedding when he asks Tony to have Rusty killed. It implies that Rusty was first choice for boss after Carmine died and Johnny was okay with it, only Rusty himself didn't want it. Isn't this a bit of a retcon? As I recall, Johnny had wanted the big seat since before Carmine died, as he had called a hit on him in S4 finale.

During the power struggle between Johnny and Little Carmine, Rusty and Angelo Garepe are the real brains behind the latter so, if Rusty wanted to run the family, why didn't he just do it in the first place?

Didn't Rusty have heart problems, triple bypass or something along those lines ?

I always laugh when little carmine is telling Rusty and Angelo that hes a stronger man than his father was, but is having trouble proving that hes more effective lol.

Everything that came out of Carmine's mouth was a gallon of pure gold.

But still even if we consider that Rusty didn't want to be boss because he got sick, it's weird to hear Johnny say how Rusty "could and should have" been boss when Johnny had wanted the position for ages.

Sounds to me like your friend John wants to force Little Carmine's hand.

In my day, the top spot would've gone to Little Carmine, unless he was actually retarded or crippled or something.

He's the son.

That was Feech, right? Although I don't think sons were ever automatic heirs in the Mafia.

Haha yeah old Feech.

Im pretty sure either Tony or Silvio turns around and says when did that ever happen ? or something along those lines.

I don't wanna hear no more about how it was in your day.

You just keep your anecdotes to local color, like Dynaflows, or McGuire Sisters, shit like that.

Otherwise, shut the fuck up! Jesus Christ, Feech, I'm tryin' to ease your transition here and this is the thanks I get?

I don't really understand why Feech was wrong for stealing those cars. First Tony never outright states that Dr. Fried is off limits, and second, Tony asks him "Who authorized you to do it?" which I found bullshit.

The doctor was a player in the executive game and Feech knew it. I imagine Tony wouldn't want to alienate a guy who is part of such big moneymaker.

Rusty didn't want the heat. He claimed health reasons but I always felt like he just wanted to use Little Carmine as a puppet and lighting rod to keep the heat off an old man but his plan was to always run the show, just not over assert himself towards the higher ups such as Tony does. Carmine would have done whatever Rusty advised clearly, so you figure Rusty is then at every meeting, gets told everything as not everyone can access Little Carmine if he's boss directly. But who knows, he also had enemies, John or Phil probably would have killed him later on regardless. Food for thought.

Also, the doctor I think would be considered a legitimate associate of the family therefore not the be stolen from in such a capacity without at least a discussion even by a made man like Feech. The doctor fronted for Tony in the HUD deals, he's dumps cash in the executive game, he's their on-call gunshot doctor, such as when Furio takes one to the leg. "I'm a prick doctor, get it?". So I can understand why Tony was pissed at Feech for doing this, if you take into account Feech was fresh out, on probation, and at the time trying to usurp power from anyone he could, making up for what he felt he deserved.

Frankie Valli would’ve portrayed Scarfo perfectly.
