What happened to the Russian in Pine Barrens?

So your opinions on what happened after they lost him in the woods?

Yes, the tree. I was thinking he was in the tree possibly, since the footprints stopped and the camera angle was as if someone was looking down on Paulie and Christopher.

In truth after questioning it the first couple of times i saw the episode, eventually i just took it as something mean to be unanswered. I find that episode to be one of those one off, self-contained, episodes. And while it is refered to once more, it never has any bearing in the story arc of that season (or any other). So enjoy the episode for what it is, and believe what you want to believe. (I think the aliens took him!)

This is also the start of the downfall of Paulie and Tonys relationship.
After this episode they are never the same again.Silvio should have collected the money from the russian but Silvio was sick..

Paulie should have just walked inside, grabbed the money and left. Five minutes turned into an entire day of nonsense. How was Tony supposed to trust a man after the guy made those stupid decisions?

Paulie was doing his best to wind the russian up, i think smashing the remote was what made him attack Paulie.

Have to say Paulie has great taste in clothing though.

Why did Tony have to lie to Paulie about Silvio for not picking up his collect? and why Tony had to use Paulie to pick up the collect?.....Obviously, Silvio being a pu$$y to do it if nothing big deal about it so Silvio would have no problem to do it cause it was his money, not Paulie's money.

Yeah, but you can understand that Paulie was very frustrated that he has to do something for his mom but couldn't do it and that's why he said "Why couldn't Silivo do it" so he knew they're liars anyway so they showed the scene where Silivo where he didn't give a sh!t nothing at all when Tony lied to Pauile that Silvio is sick.

It was Silvio's money and he's faking being a s!ck and Paulie had to took care of it for him......It's not Paulie's fault

I didn't like the fact that they didn't tie up this loose end...yes, in real life not all loose ends are tied up, but this is a t.v. show...

Lets be realistic here. In real life the guy would have been shot in the head when he was in the trunk.

Whether Silvio was faking to be sick or not, Paulie did still screw up when collecting the dough. I think what happened in the Pine Barrens was this; The Russian climbed up in a tree, despite being shot in the head and after that, he climbed down and lost conscience. Later on, the Boy Scouts find the body and call Slava, as Chase stated in the interview. The new mystery here is, why did Slava never confront Tony about this?

must have survived and took the car. or died in the tree and someone else robbed the car. but tha would mean he would of been found?

Chase asked the audience when moderator and "Simpsons" creator Matt Groenig asked about the fate of the Russian left for dead in the "Pine Barrens" episode. "OK, this is what happened. Some Boy Scouts found the Russian, who had the telephone number to his boss, Slava, in his pocket. They called Slava, who took him to the hospital where he had brain surgery. And then Slava sent him back to the Soviet Union."

When I first heard Chase's explaination,I thought the same thing.Maybe Valery had some sort of brain damage/memory loss from the ordeal !!!

I thought the same thing,but I think Paulie and Chris figured that they could save themselves the trouble of digging a grave in frozen ground in crappy weather. If they were half smart and not so lazy,they would have dug the hole,shot the Russian in the trunk,(or marched him to the hole and done it quickly),and been gone. As we found out,they severely underestimated their victim. Had it been any other guy,I doubt he would have gotten the drop on both of them.

They did not go to the Russians place with the intent to kill him. They were only there on Silvio's behalf to collect the money. Things went sour from then on as they were not prepared to kill the Russian right. The brain surgery makes sense, makes a good excuse to say "I don't know what happen"

The Russian had a boss, who Tony often had dealings with. I don't understand why they did not show the Russian mob boss going after Tony in later episodes. Or Tony having to whack him to prevent a retaliation. I think David Chase was at a loss how to handle the whole matter. The Russian they lost in the woods seemed to have escaped, Chase backtracking to give an explanation is something I am not buying.

Now that Gandolfini has passed (RIP Jimmy), does a Sopranos movie get made? A plausible storyline is that Tony got whacked on the final episode of that series finale and life picks up after Tony. I'm positive that the entire cast would sign on...after all, it was Gandolfini who did not want to play the role in a motion picture.
