Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/05/05 10:39 PM

Just wanted to see what the average price was for the Season due out on June 7th (this coming tuesday). Amazon.com's List Price is $99.99, but "slashed" to only $64.99 :p

Best Buy is 69.99.

The lowest I've seen is Circuit City, who wants $59. I think I'll stop over there Tuesday. The only thing is that this is the first season I'll be buying, the rest I've gotten through the library. Oh well. I suppose I can buy them retroactively once they drop in price.

wait for them to drop and be packaged together. Even on amazon I think they have OZ for $55/season but like 120 for the first 4 seasons.

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/06/05 12:05 AM

Currently $64.88 at WalMart. ....Just to add another retailer.

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/06/05 02:11 AM

I'm pissed because I don't have the $70 and neither does my father. So I gotta wait until I get my paycheck at the end of the month and by then it'll be $90

They've already got them packaged together for over $300.

I12: Why do you think the price would go up? I don't understand...

Usually places like BestBuy & Wal-Mart have sale prices for the new release DVDs Tuesday through Saturday. Once Sunday hits it goes to "regular" price. For example, when Casino comes out a week from tomorrow, BestBuy will be selling it for $16.99 Tuesday (the 14th) through Saturday (the 18th). On Sunday (the 19th), I bet you it goes up to $19.99

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/06/05 10:54 PM

You think it will go back up that high though? I mean, most stores have it for about $65, so I'm surprised...wouldn't they want it high right away when everyone is clamoring to buy it?
Posted By: Irishman12

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/06/05 11:40 PM

Yeah I do. It'll at least go up to $80 I'm sure. I wouldn't be surprised though if it'd $90 by Sunday

Damn! Well, I'll be picking this little beauty up probably tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see.

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/07/05 08:02 AM

The Sopranos is one of the most expensive boxsets to buy over here, and I don't know why, because the extras suck. Four commentaries? I'd want at least thirteen, like The Shield (season one) offered. Is it comparatively expensive over in the States too?

If so, why is that? HBO?

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/07/05 11:50 AM

£44.99 seems to be the going rate over here in the UK.

Previous series are all available for around half that though if you shop around.

£60 in the shops though, which is rather harsh on some people's wallets.

Because it's such a great show, they know people will buy it, so they can jack up the price. Look at the price of the Oz series compared to The Sopranos. Or even Sex & The City

Think about buying it HERE (Amazon.com) or HERE (Amazon UK) if you wanna support this site. No pressure! No guilt!

Hmm, I just noticed Amazon UK is selling the NTSC version. No idea when the PAL version will be released at this point....

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/07/05 09:21 PM

I bought mine at Circuit City for $59.99. This is the lowest price I have seen for ANY Sopranos Box Set since "time immemorial" I don't expect to see any Sopranos box set ever to go lower than this price other than last minute Christmas Sales or Black Friday impulse buys. And even so, it would most likely be the first season to entice people to eventually purchase the entire series.

That's right Folks! For $64.99 with free shipping, the same price that you'll pay in most stores, you can support Geoff's site and you get to talk about Sopranos here and use this site for free!

Seriously though, what I try to do to help support this site is if I see something like this in the store for the same price as advertised through a link or banner on this site, it's a no brainer for me, I just buy it through this site to help keep things going here. Think about it. It's the least that we can do to thank Geoff for maintaining such a fantastic site for us to use!

That's weird because they've been selling the PAL version here for well over a year, maybe 18 months... Here :p

Update that link to support the site!

I noticed my local wal-mart is selling it for $76. If I can remember I'll be getting it later.

Course I just now bought season 4 about 2 weeks ago.

I went to my local Best-Buy today and they were selling it for $83.99 ... I walked right out, went down 50 feet to BJ's and bought it there for $64.99

What on Earth causes shops to sell their stuff so much more expensively than other stores? What are they thinking? I mean, we have a store here (which recently got closed down) that sold second-hand DVDs for more money than the brand new ones at a store down the road. Ridiculous.

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/16/05 12:09 AM

Well, how is it? Are there any goodies (special features) or is it about like the other 4? I'm expecting it for Father's Day and steadily drooling until then!
Posted By: Irishman12

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/16/05 12:39 AM

Just ordered it from Wal-Mart.com for $65 and change (that's including tax & shipping). I can't wait to get it!

The commentaries are about it. I've never known the Soprano DVD's to be packed with many special features...

Which again begs the question of why these are so expensive in comparison to other shows. The Shield (at least season one) had a commentary on all thirteen episodes, and sold at less than half the price of The Sopranos boxsets over here.

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/17/05 08:53 PM

Maybe because HBO knows how great of a show they have on their hands, and special features or no special features, they know people (at least some) will pay the higher price for The Sopranos than for The Shield
Posted By: Double-J

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/19/05 12:55 PM

Of course. HBO knows that they have the #1 show on TV, and they know people are willing to shell out the cash to get it on DVD (though there are those of us with burners, hehe). They've set the price just high enough so that people will be willing to buy it, especially at *sale*, but not so high that they can't turn a profit because no one will buy it. Besides, they are making a HUGE profit off these DVD's.

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/21/05 08:12 PM

I wish that for the money we spend on these suckers that they'd include some more special features than just commentary. Some deleted scenes/bloopers if there are any. Making of features, casting, etc.

I just wanted to announce that yesterday I finally received my Season 5 DVD in the mail. $65 and change for the DVD, tax & shipping

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/21/05 09:18 PM

Since Amazon charges for their orders (up to a certain price), they actually work out as one of the most expensive online retailers...at least over here. Anybody actually bought theirs from Amazon?

I buy somethings on amazon and it's always cheaper (usually) than other online retailers (except of course for eBay at times)

Yes, Amazon does seem to be cheaper than most other retailers both online and local in many cases. I remember they had the Scarface box considerably cheaper at release than most. I pretty much check Amazon before buying any DVD just to see what the average price is, so when I go 'round to local shops, I can get an idea as to which is the best place to go...

MmmmMmmmm, free market bitches! It will get you drunk!

Re: Season 5 DVD Prices - 06/23/05 04:27 PM

I usually buy my stuff from BestBuy because of my Reward Zone membership there, but that's when I'm in Texas. When I'm up here in New York I'm more price conscience because Wal-Mart is closer than BestBuy, plus I have the Internet. But when I go back to Texas in August I'll just purchase everything from BestBuy
