Paisani, per favore!

Now, about tonight: The title is apparently "Watching Too Much Television" (madonn', not directed at any of us, I'm sure!!). And Paulie returns! I read that his absense was actually to accommodate Tony Sirico's back surgery. Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of watching Tony, Paulie, Dr. Melfi, Silvio, Artie and Bobby Baccala all throw out the first balls (with six catchers, of course) at a Yankees game. Paulie did seem to have a limp, but otherwise looked great. Dr. Melfi was all smiles; looked like she was having the time of her life! Tony looked great in shades and a cap (not a Yanks cap; probably not to alientate non-Yankees fans!) and appeared to be chewing gum. The crowd went ballistic! And Meadow sang the National Anthem; hardly anyone sang along with her, we were all entranced by her sweet, genuine soprano (!) voice and it was the quietest I've ever heard that stadium to be. She's now doing Belle in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast.

Anyway ... looking forward to Paulie's return; Tony's (sentimental?) return to his neighborhood; and Christopher and Adrianna's engagement tonight!

This was definately one of the better episodes. It had violence, it had a story, it had drama..it did not have fill-ins.I like it very much. BUt i think next week's episode looks bad.

Re: Season 4, Episode 7 - 10/28/02 03:09 AM

Yeah, but how long do we have to sit through "setting it up"? This was boring, and didn't advance the story AT ALL. Adriana doesn't seem so into the marriage thing after hearing about the testimony thing. Guess that plan backfired. Real estate scam - interesting, I guess, but who cares? The Russian whore, yeah, great seeing her again -- didn't think she'd end up being the Assemblyman's girlfriend that long, he's not a major character, and probably shouldn't be. Paulie's out - cool - but that storyline didn't move at all. We already knew he was bud's with Johnny Sack.

So what really happened this week? Nothing. And unlike past previews, next week didn't look too hot either. But maybe that's a good thing, cuz the "good" previews ended up disappointing.

Season 4? So far only two decent episodes out of five. What a shame.

Re: Season 4, Episode 7 - 10/28/02 03:12 AM

Yet another excellent episode. Looks like Paulie's and Johnny Sack's playhouse is going to tumble: I'm betting Sack will tell Carmine about the money Tony and the assemblyman made on the houses, Paulie will know Sack spilled the beans, and Paulie will turn on Sack. Speaking of the assemblyman, is he beginning to get a conscience or what?? Tony's walloping him with the belt was totally unexpected, and a little humorous ("Go ahead: Cry like a bitch!") I thought Christopher was excessively cruel to Adriana about her possibly not being able to bear him a son...but then, he's never been Mr. Sensitive, has he? Looks like they're going to leave us wondering about whether or not Adriana could testify against him if she marries him. Furio's definitely hot for Carm, but from the previews for next week, he may have to go back to Italy??
Funniest part? When Christopher thought the female body had 2 uteruses! Anyway, Yours Truly enjoyed it immensely.

I gotta agree about the preview for next week.If the preview can't do the show justice, how can the show do any better?

I try not to put much stock into the previews myself, MFM. They're sometimes grossly misleading.

Re: Season 4, Episode 7 - 10/28/02 05:29 AM

Overall a good episode. The gangbangers shooting up the house was good to see cuz that crackhead guy who threatened Tony and A.J. got what he desereved...Meadow looked pretty hot at the end when all the ladies were giving gifts to Adrianna...I think Tony over reacted to the Councilman and Irina situation but then again Zellman should have known better...Yeah the preview for the next episode looks pretty weak except for that broad Ralphie C. had on his arm. Guess we'll have to wait and see..

For a change, I didn't watch the preview of next week since it's almost always a letdown. I'm glad most people say that it doesn't look too good. That usually means something unexpected might happen.

Hi,
The episode was so so in my opinion. Chris was strung out and fell asleep in his mini-van. How Tony can't see that Chris is doing drugs is beyond me. At least we saw Paulie out of the can. Silvio was also in the episode. Furio is now the one doing the flirting with Carmella. Looks like he wants to go home next week because he knows what is going on is bad.

I hate saying this but ever since Janice shot Richie in the next to last episode in season two the show has been in a slow downward spiral. There have been momments along the way, but nothing like those first two seasons. I really hope they can inject some juice into these last six.

Hi,
I agree 100%. Richie was excellent. Nancy Marchand's death also hurt the show. The killing of Big Pussy seems like the straw that broke the Camel's back. Vincent Pastore was funny as hell at times.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on these points, Paul. I think that the role of Livia Soprano wasn't really doing much more for the show. They had already established her effect on Tony's life, and if she hung around anymore it would have just gotten more annoying. She was basically just lying around in bed for the second season, and she wasn't important to the story line anymore.

Killing off Big Pussy Bompensiero was not the straw that broke the camel's back. It provided a great ending to season 2, but ever since we found out that the feds had flipped him, he didn't seem to be of much value anyway. The fact that they'd kill one of their own was great for the show, and it let the audience know that this show would do anything to make things seem realistic.

Although Big Pussy could be funny every once in a while, I think that he was nowhere near the funniest guy on the show. Paulie and Uncle Junior were funnier, and Silvio too. Also, bringing in Ralph Cifaretto was a great move in season 3, because he provided a great foil to Tony, kinda like what Richie Aprile did in season 2.

Hopefully we see some more about Uncle Junior's trial this season, and hopefully they finally show some real action with Adrianna and the feds.

Re: Season 4, Episode 7 - 10/28/02 07:09 PM

It is tuff to go between story lines about the people themselves and Gangster business. First it is about the people and their issues, then when you get sick of that with no action they throw some gangster crap at you. Problem is to many people, to many plot lines and not enough sex....

It is like cutting the pie in two many slices...to many main people. Not enough room for all to eat off of. Time to drop Dr. Melfi and some other side shows and get us on the meat and potato line.... and they should add a pair of blonde twins to dance at the club

Re: Season 4, Episode 7 - 10/29/02 12:32 AM

I thought this episode was one of the best this season. I really liked the exchange between Tony and the druggies in the beginning. I think Adrianna is going to end up marrying Chris, and in the end won't have to testify (IMHO).

I am hoping Tony will catch on to Chris' drug problem, and wonder if he isn't grooming his nephew and perhaps is already on to Chris.

At any rate, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next episode.
