For SOPRANOS fans - 07/03/02 11:46 PM

I first heard abt The Sopranos because I'm a longtime Steve Van Zandt fan. I mean Steve the musician/songwriter/singer/producer/whatever.

I'm curious to know how many of you are fans too and what do you think of him as an "actor" -if he can be called that :p

I'm not sure how great his range is as an actor.
He says that when he puts on the wig - he becomes the character. David Chase definitely spotted something.

I like the way he moves - hunched and the frowning expression that Silvio normally has on his face. Like De Niro, he can frown with every single muscle in his face.

He's at his best doing those Al Pacino/Michael Corleone impressions or posing as he tries on new clothes like his golfing shoes in the first episode of Season 2 nodding his head and sneering.

Not only does he love movies, I think Silvio would like to be Michael Corleone even more than he would like to be Al Pacino and that's reflected in his style.

What the Godfather would have made of Bada Bing - I don't know!!!!!!!!!

You're right, Steve says he's watched GF 300 times if not more and many other gangsters movies. Actually he confessed his inspiration for the role was James Cagney because he and Bruce grew up with all those B&W gangster movies on TV and they used to imitate these characters in the streets.

I think we're lucky they chose to become musicians instead of actors though 'cuz they're a million times better at that, that's why I put " " when I call Steve an "actor" ! Now he makes a very good real film gangster caricature, don't you think ?

and when you think he does the same in real life !

I'll answer you although you keep on being nasty to me

There is no movie called the Sopranos, it's a TV series and each season has 13 episodes.
There are 3 seasons so far, the 4th one will be aired next fall.

They are or will be available on VHS and DVD. Each season needs several VHS and DVDs that are sold in box-sets.

If you want full details abt it check stores like Amazon or the official HBO site .

Enjoy !

I remember reading that when Miami Steve was first offered a part in the Sopranos that he turned it down because he did not want to take a job from a "real actor". He only later agreed to join the cast because Chase created a charector exclusivly for him. Looks like Silvio will be out on the road with the real Boss in a couple weeks.

I think Van Zandt is fairly good...no DeNiro, of course. But then again, I bet DeNiro is no musician! But his character indeed adds a lot to the show. I used to think he was the funniest, but I've since decided Paulie Walnuts is...what a character! Anyway, for those interested (like me), season 3's DVD release is slated for August 27th. I got about a week to buy it, watch it, then catch season 4's debut in early September.
