Sorry guys - I didn't mean to kill the thread. According to Harlan Lebo's
The Godfather Legacy, the final scene shot for The Godfather in NYC was Michael waiting for Sollozzo to pick him up outside Jack Dempsey's joint. The funny thing - the scene immediately after that (in Sollozzo's car with McCluskey and Lou) was one of the first scenes shot with Pacino so although one follows the other instantaniously (sp?), they are filmed 3 months apart.
My question is off the Board. Now I guess we're on Don Sonny's question:
Why is Michael's son named Anthony? I've got no clue.

I've got no clue. [/b]well, it's very interesting stuff Don Vanchenzo, and I guess you made this trivia topic more a "game" in the way this thread is called a game, since you
beat to the answer. And nice to finally know the answer
my answer to "The Iceman"'s question would be Connie grandchild, since I think I remember a topic on this board about who's child that was, and no-one seemed to fit the profile as to being that kids parent.
Michael and Kay are ruled out
Vincent and Mary...neahh
Anthony probably never had kids, unless he adopts them.
Connie had some, but were not present in Sicily.
I doubt Andy Hagen had kids.
And at Don Tommasino's age, it would be hard to get them (altough not impossible).
But hey, Lucy Mancini had a baby from Sonny even though she was never pregnant of him, so who knows?

no but good guess
his name was anthony because the little kid who played him was named anthony and he responded best when his own name was used
I remember that now! You're dead on. What's your new question?

Actually, wasn't Vito's father named Antonio, which anglicized is Anthony? Isn't that why his name is Anthony Vito Corleone, because he's named after his grandfather and great-grandfather?
Posted By: Tony Mosrite
Re: New Trivia Game - 10/16/03 08:20 PM
I know that story about the name of the kid actor being Anthony and he responding better when called by his real name is true, but what Sicilian Babe says makes a lot of sense.
I think the FFC and the production noticed the actor responding better when called Anthony, and since it fits fine in the family context, they used it.
A Question: In GF1, we don't hear any quotation to Vito's father. (at least I don't remember) But does the novel tells anything about him? if it does not, this grandfather-great gandfather thing didn't have any influence

I'd have to check both the Novel and the Lebo book, but I think Don Sonny's correct and that Michael's son was named Anthony because that is the only name to which the young actor responded. Actually, I think the GFII reference to Antonio Andollini was either a great coincidence or the great-grandfather was named after the great-grandson. I'll look.

sicillian babe makes a lot of sense too. i never thought about it like that
As for the Anthony discussion, Harlan Lebo confirms that the movie name Anthony came from the young actor's dependency on his own name. I've not checked the Novel yet.
As for Santino's last words, they were
"Come on!"

Re: New Trivia Game - 10/20/03 10:25 PM
you are right!!!!
in 1901, Vito Andolini fled to America after his father died. He was then nine years old.
...arriving in America, obviously, it's summer. one can asume Vito arived in NY in the summer of 1901 at the age of 9.
at the end of the same movie, we learn that Vito's birthday is in December, the day Pearl Harbor was attacked.
in other words, Vito was yet to have his birthday in 1901, being his tenth, which makes him born in 1891!!!!
there are some questions about this.
for one thing, Vito's tombstone in the first movie says he was born in 1889. Another thing to be bothered with: Vito Andolini came to America with no ID, nothing except a name and he didn't even keep it, because he changed it into Corleone. Who knows what else he might have changed (like, his birthday? I doubt he had a proper birth certificate along with him).
but anyway, I strongly believe Vito was born in 1891.
Don Vanchenzo, what's the next question?
Grazie, Pherdy!
The next question is (I doubt I can make it as challenging as your last question):
What does Santino eat while organizing the Family after Don Vito's shooting?
I'm not positive, but I think it was an apple.
What was that last two words in GF and if you know, who said it?
(If my answer above isn't correct, I'll use this question later, unless someone wants to answer.)

what happens after his short speech is a great laugh from Sonny, Tom, Clemenza and Tessio.
well I can't think of a question. proceed with the one from the post above me, I think...
the zoom in scene is when they're at the restarant and the camre zooms slowly in on mike's face.Pherdy thats what you mean right?

DV, I read that it was a "leech" under the glass they had on Fredo's stomach. I didn't see it in the movie either, but I read that it was a superstition used to draw out the virus or something. Not complaining mind you, but now I am curious.

TIS TIS, this practice, called "cupping," was very common among Italian and Eastern European immigrants in that era. A glass hemisphere was heated with a candle, then placed on the sick person's skin, to "draw the bad blood" to the surface. No leeches were involved in this process. It's yet another of FFC's many marvelous authenticity touches.

Let's think about this: I remember the lasagna at Connie's reception; I don't remember Mike taking a single bite of food at Louis; nor to I remember seeing him eat chinese food at waiting for the call from McClusky's precinct. I think he was too nervous to eat plus his jaw was freshly broken.

as for your question, weren't they both with the Corleone Family??? Neri and Lampone?
about the food; I guess we don't see him eat Chinese food nor the Louis' veal
but as foor the takeaway I think he must have had some prior to the scene. The veal though, he could have been to nervous for, but I always believed the whole Louis' scene wasn't 100% real-time, so maybe he did eat something in between but I'm not sure

what i was getting at with my previous question was, yes, the oranges. i have always found it odd that the first act of tribute given to Don Vito was a bag of oranges from a street vendor. maybe FFC was trying to say that, as good a Don and a father he was, his tenure was ultimately doomed from the first. or not.

there are two ways:
1- if you have, like mine does, a button on your remote control of the dvd player, there must be a button with which you can change the audio track (from different languages, for instance, including a commentary track), like you have a subtitles-button as well

I'm not in at a place I can reference my copy of the Novel, however, I know the $500 was to open a Pizzaria. I forgot who asked for the money however, so I'm only batting .500 - .333 if you count Pherdy's interesting question that hit me like a stone wall.

According to the Novel, Anthony Coppola came to Vito during Connie's wedding asking for $500.00 to start a pizzaria. Vito did not have enough cash to loan him so he borrowed money off of Tom Hagen. This showed Vito's humility that he would borrow off of another to fulfill the wish of another.

FWIW - Novello's sister, Antonia, was the former Surgeon General of the U.S., and is currently the NYS Health Commissioner.
Next question - Who appeared in all three Trilogy films IN DIFFERENT ROLES?
and we have a winner!! Dominic Abbandando was the PR-guy, probably a grandson of Genco (if you ask me, but in real life
Don Novello was only a few years younger than Al Pacino)
A: Frank Costello

Et tu, Pherdy?? This has been one of the most debated subjects on these boards. The general consensus is there was no single (one) gangster on whom Don Vito was based. (ie. he had a lot of characteristics of many real-life mobsters).

Re: New Trivia Game - 11/09/03 05:11 PM
you know, I actually started a reply saying that Vito was based on more than one real-life mobster but I then thought that would make no sense for a trivia-question, so I looked around a little (not on this board I admit) and found it somewhere he was based on Frank Costello. probably for some characteristics or something, maybe lookwise I don't know.

Re: New Trivia Game - 11/09/03 08:37 PM
what do you think?
My understanding is that Vito Andolini Corleone was a composite of different Dons in real life. He had traits like Don Gambino (quietly built an empire), Don Luciano (masterful underworld organizer)and Don Columbo (very, very powerful friends). I sure there were others made in the composite also. He reflected the "best" of the Dons; money, respect, power, focus and determination.

OK.....I'm a newbie to this game, so forgive me if this has already been asked:
Its pretty well established that Marlon Brando received $50,000 as salary for his six weeks worth of filming in Part I. What would his weekly pay be IF he had to go into "overtime"? (ie. the filming lasted more than six weeks).
Depends on if he worked 7 days a week. Lets say he did for this, then he would get paid-$8333.29 each week after that.

Nope. Its not a simple arithmetic question.
Brando would have received $40,000/week if he had to work after the initial six weeks. The last scene he was scheduled to shoot was going to put him into that "overtime" class, but he gave up the extra pay and settled for some minor perks.

Bobby D got Pacino's part in Bang The Drum Slowly.
My pervious question still stands
Posted By: tripwire
Re: New Trivia Game - 12/05/03 12:55 AM
Actually, Don Sonny, Pacino was to play the part of Mario Trantino in "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight" after "The Panic in Needle Park." Originally, FFC wanted him (of course) to play Michael but the pezzonovantes at Paramount wanted nothing to do with him and wanted James Caan to play Michael. But after seeing the dailies of "Needle Park," the execs agreed to let FFC cast Pacino as Michael if he could also get Caan to play Sonny. The only problem was Pacino was signed on to do "Gang". So Paramount got Pacino out of his obligation to star in "Gang" and brought him over to play Michael, which allowed FFC to recast the part of Paulie and freed up (ironically) Deniro to play Mario in "Gang" only to return as a young Vito in GF2.
I'm confused - what was the question?

A) They told him it was a makeup test. He showed up resembling the version of Vito Corleone we all know and love and it was obvious the role was made for him.
Q) I think Brando ultimately became the owner, but where did the lap-cat come from at the beginning of GF1 and what problems arose from the cat being in the scene?
Nick
Edit: Forgot to mention the "who" part of the question...
It was FFC's idea to tell Brando it was a makeup test because he couldn't bring himself to tell Marlon Brando that he had to do a screen test. He didn't like seeing the once-mighty Brando so desperate for a role.
the correct answer to my question earlier which was how many people were killed in the godfather is 18. Luca, Sollozo, McClusky, Phillip Tattaligia (we never see), Paulie, Appolonia, Moe Green, Stratchi, Guy with Stratchi in elevator, Cuono, Barzini, two guys with Barzini, Tattaligia, and his mistress, Carlo, Tessio, Santino. Re: New Trivia Game - 03/13/04 03:39 AM
Heres a hint, you'll find FFC saying the answers when Michael gets married.
I can only think of learning how to speak Sicilian, and when he's getting married...so...how to dance?

Re: New Trivia Game - 03/14/04 02:06 PM
Yep and the third one is to drive.
I leave the next question to you Don Sonny Corleone.
How to drive?!
He didnt really drive all that much.I though Bobby Deerfeild is when he learned to drive. Anywho-Why didnt Brando want to use the "lawyer w/ his briefcase can steal more...." line?

When are the only two times that an African- American character is shown in the trilogy?
Posted By: Big Paz
Re: New Trivia Game - 03/18/04 11:31 PM
Is one when Sonny is beating the crap out of Carlo?? Or do you mean with actual dialogue, cause then i cant even get one!!
(Pure guess at the moment, is the other one when Vito first comes to the country?)
Khartoum's groom in the Godfather and the real life mayor at the party in Part III.

Re: New Trivia Game - 03/19/04 06:57 PM
Aaah, and I thought I got them all...
I missed Khartoum's groom I guess,
the other 2 I thought of are at Ellis Island and at the party in gf3.
As for dialogue, the only one I can think of is the one in GF3.

Re: New Trivia Game - 03/19/04 07:00 PM
There are many instances when we hear the godfather waltz in the trilogy. However, there is only one case (I hope I am right this time) in which we hear the waltz along with lyrics. When is it?
Are you talking about when Anthony sings it, because that has the tune of one of the GF songs
Posted By: Cicc'
Re: New Trivia Game - 03/20/04 07:08 AM
No. Anthony sings to the tune of the "theme song" or brucca la terra, which we hear when Michael goes to Sicily after killing Solozzo.
I was talking about the waltz, heard here:
http://www.moviethemes.org/midis/midisg-o/gf_waltz.mid i think theres only one instance when sumone sings to that tune,

Re: New Trivia Game - 03/20/04 05:10 PM
in the godfather why didnt they never use the words mafia or cosa nostra
It was part of the "deal" they worked out w/ Bonnanno to film in new York.
