Hello! - 01/16/04 03:13 PM

Hi, I just wanted to say hello as I've been lurking for awhile and finally registered today. I've been a fan of these movies for about a year and a half now, and consider them some of the greatest ever made. However, I have to say that the third one was a bit of a letdown for me. Not to offend anyone who really likes it, but I thought it was a bit confusing, fast moving in some places and too slow in others. A lot of other people I talk to seem to like it, am I one of the few who just didn't get it?

No you are not the only one. I thought Godfather Part III was a decent film, but it just didn't have the magic of the first two films. Alot of people critized of sophia Coppola's acting, but I felt that wasn't the cause of the letdown. Robert Duvall's character Tom Hagen wasn't in the movie and he always was a well liked character on the screen.

Well for me Godfather III is a good movie and i liked it. i don't mind sophia's acting its just that she was with the top actors in one movie so her being "amature" was noticed easily. Pacinos acting when Mary was shot is my personal favorite in the movie.
WelCome to the Family Darth Corleone! looking forward on your post and enjoy your stay like we do.

Godfather III should have been excellent, and has some brilliant bits in it, but....something about it just doesn't seem right. Like a lot of others here, I feel the storyline is a bit weak, and i found the bits with Michael and Kay "getting back together" particularly nauseating.

On the plus side, I like the way they brought back some minor characters from GFI - such as Enzo - who makes the cake at Michael's party at the start of the film, and Calo.

The part at the end where the Corleone Family strikes back at its enemies was great, in keeping with the first two films, and Al Pacino's acting when Mary gets shot is brilliant.

Welcome. I think the end of 3 was good,Mary and Mike dying and such. It was nice and emotional. Most of it was too confusing though, all those old guys who looked exactally the same.

i thought it was terrible. it just didnt seem to have the magic of the first two. maybe because it wasnt a book or something i dunno. even the music didnt seem to fit the movie like it fit so perfectly in the first two. maybe im crazy for thinking something like that but i think its the truth lol

Godfather III was alright, not as good as the first two (but then again, nothing comes close) but still a decent film on its own. I agree with Bella Mafia UK about the Michael & Kay scenes as I found it hard to swallow that Mike would ever even enter a room where Kay might be present, he would treat her as he did Fredo. I couldn't understand his being with her. The rest was enjoyable and as for the music, Don Moogy, well, Anthony's song is a magnificent addition to the Godfather soundtrack.

I felt like I was watching a cheap b-movie.
Scarface was better and even that wasnt great, it let the side down a bit.

Re: Hello! - 01/25/04 03:13 PM

I would have welcomed a GFIII and even LIKED it had not the whole Vincent plot been added. There was enough intrigue to go around without that.

I still think it would have been good if Coppola had done a pre-quel in GFIII and traced the years between The Don's early rise to crime and his position as underworld kingpin. And if there's ever a IV, that's what I really hope happens. Hey, DiNero's still alive, right??

I really resented Vincent. And I resented Eli Wallach playing his part like he was Topo Gigio. I didn't have much of a problem with the palace intrigue-type plot. And Sofia didn't even bother me all that much. Vincent and Don Altobelli (or whatever his name was) did.

Hi Darth,

You've picked a topic that has been discussed many many times here before. Everyone seems to agree that the third GF does not live up to the first two (including myself). I think it's a matter of separating III from the first two. In that respect it is, like someone said it is a "decent" movie, but when you try to compare it to the first two, it seems mediocre. ohwell

I am totally in agreement however, with Cannoli regarding the Vicent character, and am with the preference of GFIII going back to Vito's rise. Many share this belief, and many didn't mind the Vincent character at all. I wonder tho, if they had it to do over again, to make it equivelant to the first two, if that would be one of the things they'd change? ohwell Oh well, can't go back.

I preferred the first two films but felt a lot of sympathy for Michael as he wanted to become legitimate but kept getting 'dragged back in'.
I agree with Sonny, the end was very moving.
