I'm not sure what part of GFIII you were watching. Are you referring to Tom Hagen? He wasn't in GFIII. Noone knows what happerned to him after GFII.

In the GF III it is mentioned that he died. May have been in one of the deleted scenes.

Yes there is a reference made to Tom's death in GFIII.

It is in the scene when Michael and Harrison are having breakfast going over paperwork and Andrew Hagen enters and Michael introduces him to Harrison. Michael sas to Harrison " his father was a great lawyer," and then says " Didn't live to see him ordained."

Re: What happens to Tom Higgens?? - 06/05/05 04:13 PM

lol!

*covers ears* Not listening... Tom never died... it was all a big lie because really he wanted out like Michael did... so they set him up in New Zealand under the name of Jack McAney and he grew his own vegetables in his garden and became the mayor of the little town he lives in... and one day we're going to meet up and be really happy together, because Tom never ages. He is immortal, and decidedly not dead....

Yeah I know, this Tom thing really has to stop... lol

Wasn't "Tom Higgins" a character in "My Fair Lady"?

I believe Al Pacino ordered Henry Hill to kill Bilbo Baggins in South Havana.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh my God when I saw the name "Higgins" I thought I had logged on to the Magnum P.I. webpage. eek
Turnbull, do you remember the score from "My Fair Lady" and the song "Poor Consigliere Higgins" lol

Just kiddin Maui, glad to have ya. Nope nothin in the deleted scenes explains the demise of Hagen but I do believe that Robert Duvall who portrays the consigliere in GFI and GFII got a little too greedy for Coppola's taste, so no more "Kraut Mick friend". It seems ironic if you remember the scene in GFI where Sonny is bitchin about "Pop got Genco, look what I got", Michael must have been like "I had Tom now I have the star of Love at First Bite?!" mad

Yes, and I remember that famous song they sang about Vito: "On the Mall Where You Live." ("I have often walked in this mall before/but I never had a bomb thrown at my car before...")

I'm getting shot at in the morning
In my bedroom where my children come to play
Fredo was the traitor
And it's Roth I'll visit later
In Havana during Fulgie's big soiree

I could have danced all night
But Fidel was such a fright
Ba- teesta - fled away.
I could have skipped that show
Where super man did glow
Where Fredo gave the truth away

(Senator Geary:)
All I want is a whore somewhere,
Yo-lan-da with red, red hair,
And far away from Michael's stare,
Oh, wouldn't it be lover-ly....

(This is even better than the Fifth Amendment debate in the "Did Roth really play it beautifully" thread grin )

Just you wait Thomas Higgens
Just you wait
You are not my consigliere as of late
Just go step outside that door
Cause you're not too good at war
And Barzini's got the family all irate. lol

Gee, Senator Geary,
We're down on our knees,

What are we to do?
Gee, Senator Geary,
Krup you!

Re: What happens to Tom Higgens?? - 06/09/05 04:36 PM

Sollozzo's song: Michele (pronounced a la siciliana) To the tune of 'Maria' from West Side Story. Yes I am bored.

The most terrible sound I ever heard:
Michele,
Michele, Michele, Michele . . .
All the terrible sounds of the world in a single word . . .

Michele!

Just got shot by a guy named Michele,
And suddenly I've found
The veal is going down like lead...
Michele!
Blown away by a guy named Michele,
I thought he was a kid,
But now look what he did
To me...
Michele!
If it weren't for this hole in my forehead,
I would contact my guys to make him dead.

Michele,
I should never have messed with Michele...

lol orange Oh dear, *walk away from the computer*

Re: What happens to Tom Higgens?? - 06/10/05 04:37 PM

This is sooo sick...

Here is the true story of Tom Higgens.

Born in 1846, Thomas Higgens was the illegitimate son of the Duke of York. "Higgens," was the surname of the laundress who gave birth to him. The Duke paid her a modest stipend, which she accepted. Thomas, at age 16 learned of his parentage, and demanded the Duke give him a title, and one third of the Duke's land holdings. Immediately, his mother was sent into exile in Ireland, and Thomas was put in a debtor's prison on a trumped up charge.
Two years later, in 1864, he was released, and immediately returned to York where he and some cohorts plotted to assassinate the Duke. When the police discovered the conspiracy, Thomas fled the couintry, first to Holland, where he changes his name to Tomas Huiggenza (it is rumored that he fathered an early ancestor to Wayne Huizenga there).
Fearing capture, he went to sea on a frigate headed for Indonesia, however when he got to Gibraltar, he jumped ship, and found his way to Barcelona. From there, he traveled to Sicily in 1870. Unaware of the Sicilian Language, he believed all men shared the same first name, "Don," so he again changed his name to Don Tomizina. In 1885 he married a local pesant widow, and in 1900 they gave birth to their only son, Don Tomizina, Jr.
Thomas died in 1925, leaving what he had to his cunning son, who by now had gone into the olive oil business with a certain family in the United States. The enterprising young man further altered the name to Don Tomassino, and the rest is history.

There is no deleted scene explaining Tom's death. He, Robert Duvall, was asking for too much money. So rather than re-cast him, which would have not pleased the fans, they simply killed him; wrote him out of the third movie with no explanation. Which, probably made fans pleased, right? smile Hope this helps.

Major advantage of working with cosa nostra material. You can't afford a character? You getting tired of a character? Just have them whacked! It works almost everytime. I remember watching that special on 60 minutes about the Sopranos and the interview with David Chase. He was talking about how convenient it is to clip somebody when you have run out of ideas for their character. Plus you can come up with a creative hit scene.
