GODFATHER ITALIAN QUOTES GAME - 05/02/05 04:50 PM
There is another thread here that seeks to find some translations from Italian (or Sicilian) to English. I think there are enough in Italian (or Sicilian) quotes in all three films to make a game of it. The rules are .. a quote is posted, you answer who said it, to whom and add something about the context. Phonetic spelling is fine.
Examples:
"Va fan gool you!" Connie to Carlo before he beats her up.
"Tua fmiglia sta posto...sta posto" Tom Hagen to Frank Pentangeli's brother at the conclusion of the hearing.

Sure. Someone is telling someone else who Fredo is.
Okay then I guess it must be... Mike... but darnit I don't know who to! Off to ruminate some more...
Woohoo, got it
Mike to his bodyguard (the guy on DBCH's avatar) when Fredo arrives with the briefcase full of money. Am I right?

You are correct. I know Michael says Che succese? to Tom, but I dont lnow andy che c'e. A Hint??
Ah, tricky! I've just reviewed one of my answers and in fact that one's "che succese" (sp?) - but the one you mentioned, Tom to Mike, was correct, Mike does in fact say "che c'è"
Okay so when is the "che succese" one? I'll give you a hint, he's italian

A. "tuo nome" is "you name?" spoken by the translator at customs to Vito Andolini. Before the boy can answer the other guy names him "Vito Corleone."
A. "bicchiere di Scotch" is Bruno tattaglia to Luca.

Re: GODFATHER ITALIAN QUOTES GAME - 05/25/05 01:23 PM
Yes, lets put it out of its misery, or as Jack Woltz might say, stop beating a dead horse.
The answer to the last one "E pulito" which means he's clean is said by Lucchese's bodyguard to Lucchese when the assassin sent by Vincent Corleone asks to whisper something in his ear.
Thanks Don T! Damn I can't believe I didn't think of that, I was thinking 'it's clean' like someone was talking about a car or a gun or something... I love this thread, nice one man. So, shoot

Yes, but the same line is repeated by Signor Roberto, when he goes to see Vito in his study: "Il cane può restare....ma certo che può restare!"
I thought you were referring to that line, there were two possible answers.

Right, that's Vito welcoming Barzini to the wedding party. Here's the next one.

Re: GODFATHER ITALIAN QUOTES GAME - 07/18/05 03:07 PM
That would be Michael talking to Sollozzo, I think. Its something about his inability to find the right words in Italian to express himself. I will not post another quote until it is verified that I got this right.

(quoted from the script)
FANUCCI [in Italian]
You've got balls, young man! How come I never heard of you before? You've got a lot of guts.
But in Italian Fanucci says: "Tieni u' pelo nello stomaco", which is like to say "you have a lot of guts, boy..."

Ok..*sighs*
It was mama Corleone, introducing the Colombo widow to Vito. The line means "she's in troubles" in English.
You turn now.
