As you can see in the Gangster TV Listings, they are finally re-airing the chronological (w/ extra footage) "Godfather Saga/Novel for TV" this week on Spike TV! In 4 parts:

Mon 9am-12pm ET - Part 1 of 4
Tue 9-11am ET - Part 2 of 4
Wed 9-11am ET - Part 3 of 4
Thu 9-11am ET - Part 4 of 4
Fri 9am-1pm ET - GF3

We're lucky if this is aired every year or two, so don't miss it!

Good job Geoff! I haven't seen the Saga since Christmas of 2001, I believe. Those ebay copies are terrible.

I wonder if it will have any deleted scenes.

I agree, but that's the beauty of cable: it can move airings around to eventually catch everyone.

Mig, don't you have Satellite TV? Call your satellite company and tell them that you want to REPLACE your satellite box with a DVR satellite box.

Last year I called my satellite company and told them that I wanted a good deal on getting a DVR because I've been with them for so long. They replaced 2 of my regular satellite boxes with 2 DVR boxes and all it cost me was 2 cents more a month!

You tell them that their competitor satellite company has offered to give you the same service at the same price per month and throw in a free DVR if you sign up with them. Watch how fast they make you some kind of a deal.

Earlier I erased the Saga from my DVR that I recorded almost 2 (I think) years ago, to re-record this week... I hope I didn't make a mistake!

I will then force myself to try and get the footage off the DVR and onto the computer -- still don't know if it's possible...

They did it again ...the first part went 9 mins over. Good thing I was here to make sure I got it all...

If you DVR it, add a half hour (or record the shows after each part) to make sure you don't miss anything. You'd think they'd know how long these things last and schedule accordingly...

Just watched the Saga. I still can't catch that "ex lax" dialogue.

Also, when Sollozzo tells Tom that it's bad luck for me and bad luck for you if you don't make the deal, what does he mean. He's letting Tom go, so it seems like a non-sequitur.

My dvr has a "STOP AT END OF EVENT" option. I sure hope that they don't do it by scheduled time according to the programming itself!

Spike TV sucks!

It cut off right when Sollozo is telling Tom about Vito being shot. As Geoff said it ran 9 minutes over.

I reset tomorrow and Wednesday's settings to run from 9:00 to 11:30, leaving an extra half an hour just in case those chubatos decide to run it over the time limit again because of all their f**king commercials.

I just love the scene when Sonny goes into the Don's office after telling his mother that Vito has been shot. He just looks at the Don's chair and automatically sits in the other chair. That 2 second scene just speaks volumes.

EDIT : I see that Geoff posted that the veiwings run from 9:00Am to 12:00 Noon each day. But the guide says that Tuesday and Wednesday's episodes run from 9:00AM to 11:00AM. Geoff, is my guide wrong? Or did you err in your post above?

My bad, sorry... don't forget Thursday as well...

I set mine up to "record all episodes / all times" - and added 30 minutes to the end of each just in case...

Good. This way I can record it from my DVR onto a DVD and edit it. Someone was supposed to do that for me about 2 years ago.

But at least now I have another excuse to watch the Saga again!

Friday is GFIII. I already have the unedited version. No big deal with those deleted scenes anyway.

I believe that you can record off of the DVR. I *THINK* that I did before my DVD recorder broke. I am getting a new one tomorrow, so I'll let you know for sure.

Well, I worked in municipal gov't for 27 years. I have a nice retirement package. Now I can teach at my leisure. Summer school won't start for a couple of weeks, so yeah, it's nice. Work hard, invest your money wisely and it will all fall into your lap.

Son of a b--ch I didn't see this thread in time and missed the first day. I set the DVR for the other 3, so I should get some of the deleted scenes from the 1940-1950 storyline.

Don Geoffy, if you get it figured out PLEASE COPY ONE FOR ME.

Please let me buy a copy too! I've been wanting to watch this for AGES, and my own attempt at making it failed when I realised:

a) There is still extra footage not on my DVDs
b) Mixing the sound where scenes fade in and out would be impossible
c) Mixing aspect ratios would never have worked (some of my deleted scenes are in 4:3)

I'm not that bothered about part 3 though! hehe.

I did it today. I got a DVD recorder for my birthday, set it up and was able to record off of the DVR.

Well then can I purchase a copy from you in August? I didn't get to see it today

But I need to get it into the computer so I can edit the commercials out -- I assume I will be able to as it has firewire ports on it... just not sure if I can read the codec it's encoded in - we'll see... if not, maybe I could rip them from your DVDs...

Puzo just loved the alternate ending with Kay lighting the candles in the Church. I think the one they went with, the shot of Michael alone in Tahoe reflecting on his life and on his loss, says it all. Much more powerful.

I'm just wondering, does SPIKE allow the Saga to be aired uncensored?? I remember well how The Godfather had cuss words editied out by that crappy channel AMC last year -- they left in ALL the R-Rated Violecne---- but no 'bad' words on that f*cked up channel !!

Yeah, it's edited. Quite unbelievably, since the language on Family Guy and South Park is infinitely "worse" than in The Godfather But my guess is that there is only the edited version, as it was specifically made for TV...

Yeah the language in the Godfather is hardly shocking compared to a lot of new stuff and some older stuff too!
