is it really worth the price?

is it really worth the price? - 10/04/02 02:46 AM

i just happened to catch half of The Godfather on tv over the weekend, found it during the scene where the family was discussing to plant the gun behind the toilet...

and since ive rented all three movies, and am still stunned. im not really interested in any "behind the scenes" stuff, or other fodder. the DVD boxed set is $79.00 around here. are there scenes included that really add to the story? it seems that i could just buy the three movies individualy for $20 each and be just as happy. is it really worth the price?

Ahh, a newbie. In region 1 (which is basically North America), The Godfather is only available as a Trilogy and not individually.

Run out and buy them NOW!

in Europe the Trilogy box is also the only DVD item you can buy. The extra scenes, my friend, makes you wish they never stopped the movie(s) after 3 hours. With them in it (I believe the US tv saga version was with those scenes included) the story is not just longer but even better. It has some more scenes from the novel (like some Woltz scenes). And it has a nine hour long audio commentary, off course, if you can sit it through.

And I think you'd even like the Behind-The-Scenes extra's, I certainly did (learn about how an entire Little Italy street was in 1974 transformed to a 1917 setting, it's enormous!)

Hi,
My only complaint with the set is each case that holds the DVDs. They are VERY cheap and as a result I went and bought new cases. I couldn't get them out and once I accomplished that decided not to put them back in.

Yes the cases blow thats the only thing that sucks though. It is totaly worth buying grin

Hi,
I just hope they don't decide to come out with another set in the next 6 to 8 months.

I doubt they would do that. For what reason? A chronological or additional scenes included set or something? Sounds unlikely.

There used to be a website that had hi-res scans of DVD covers so that you could print them out on photo paper in your color printer and insert them in an empty DVD case. I downloaded the ones for the Trilogy (there were four, one for each movie and one for the extras), but I don't remember where I saved them. I will try to see if I can find them.

Funny, because I was thinking about buying the DVD box set the other day, but the price tag put me off.

Well how much was it Aberdeen? I paid 75$ for mine and its worth every penny. By the way Welcome to the boards!

It was £60 over here(don't know what that is in Dollars).
Given that I already owned the trilogy on video cassette I didn't think the extra stuff was worth the price, which I could look up on the internet anyway.
Well, I'm not ruling out buying it in the future.

I can't find them here on my work computer, so I might have deleted them. However, I rarely clean out my hard drive without first putting them on a CD, so I will look through some of my CDs I have at home. I'm sure I'll find it.

When I do find them, however, it will be tough to give them to people because they're relatively big. Perhaps the Don will do me a personal favor if I ask. First thing's first, I have to find the files.

Harmonic,
The DVD is well worth the price.

The extras are not fodder, they add tremendously to the viewing experience. The picture quality is beautiful! Even the menus are beautiful!
Great extras, and fabulous commentaries by FFC. He doesn't BS and go off on tangents like other directors on DVD commentaries. If he does, it relates to the movie.

What is the problem with the cases that I keep on hearing about? My only complaint is that the GF2 disc 1 wasn't placed completely in the case, and when I opened it for the first time and it fell and got scratched! Those damn packagers! Or, those damn packaging machines!

I don't have a problem getting the DVDs out of the cases.

FFC does get a little annoying by having to remind us every few minutes that he was going to get fired.

Well even though he repeated that a lot I still think it goes to show the enormity of pressure he was under. His fear of being fired must have left him traumatised/scarred if he needed to repeat it that often during his commentary.

Little did FFC know (during GI's production) that it would end up being voted one of the best movies ever......did you see his Academy Award acceptance speech? He was in shock - he actually didn't think (after all that pressure and those threats by Paramount) that his blood sweat and tears would pay off as much as they did wink

I collect DVDs and would much rather have a neat boxed set on my shelf than going out and buying them all separate..for a bit more cash u get all 3 movies and bonus scenes and a neat box too.
Defiently worth it.

There is no other option. It only comes as a box set, so you either have all of them or none of them. And the box ain't that "neat" either. But it's the movies that matter, not the aesthetics of the packaging, I guess.
