Anybody having a problem... - 09/11/02 09:19 PM

Anybody having a problem with their GFI DVD ? More specifically, during the scene when the Don comes home from the hospital and Tom and Sonny tell him that Michael shot Sollutzo. During that whole scene and up until Sonny tells the Don Fredos is going to Vegas there are a couple of times scenes pause for a few seconds then resume. The rest of the DVD is ok and my player is less the a year old and plays all my other DVD ok...Thanks for the imput.

Hi,
I heard that Toshiba Players tend to have a problem with certain disks. There were complaints that the movie "Casino" would lock up some players and software was sold to solve the problems.

I had a defective GF1 disk in the first GF DVD set I purchased. My player wouldn't even recognize it as a DVD. I return it for a new set, and they work fine.

this is amazing! my dvd always stops when vito waves them out of the room after being told mike shot sollozo and mccluskey! it sucks because i don't get to see sonny yelling at tom down the stairs.

that whole room scene skips, too. sometimes, i stops reading right before the lovely transition where vito's face fades into the sicily landscape.

i used our playstation 2 to watch dvd's, and i tried it on my dvd on my computer, and it works well.

ps2 are known to not read gold bottomed dvd discs too well. but, as time went on our ps2 couldn't read any dvd.

this is amazing! it skips at the same spot (shaking my head) smile

Weird - Toshiba is one of the best out there, that's what I have! (different model, though)

I haven't noticed any problems with GF or Casino, but I may not have played Casino on this player yet. Gives me a good excuse to watch it again... grin

i dont have problems with mine. i'm using a pioneer dvd player. i've tried other brands and felt pioneer works the best. even the laser disk player i'm using is a pioneer and its working fine up to now and i've been using it for the past 11 years . . .

I'd imagine Pioneer being good, too - they do make the best DVD-R burner (which I have).

PS Hmmm, 'oggie, you've posted more than I have already? grin

[Linked Image] I've got an $89.95 Daewoo that plays everything fine, thank God. As you might know a dirty disc can do weird things, but it could be the player. I hope not. ohwell

Ahhh my GF1 DVD that I rented was meeeeesssseedd up bad, I went and asked those pezzonovante for a refund. It kept fucking up, even tho there was no visible scratches or anything, but vigorously wiping the disc helped I had to do this 18 times. 18 times it froze.

Sometimes if the pause is minor, it might be a layer change. But these pauses should last less than a second and should only happen once about halfway through the movie.

Yeah I can't stand those layer changes! I always think that my DVD froze, and that's the last thing you want when you're watching a movie & enjoying it! Having to get up & fix it (cough Goodfellas!)

Well, I wouldn't call GoodFellas a layer change, since it's a single layer disc. I'd call that more of a side change.

I don´t know a lot abaut DVD (so don´t be mad if it is a bad comment) Maybe when the DVD-player is playing the DVD that he will skip parts because of slight vibrations. wink ohwell

I'm so mad at you right now!

Hahaha. Just kidding. Usually DVD players are sitting on a shelf or something, so it's most likely not a vibration. Usually it's either a dirty lens or a scratched DVD.
