Deleted Bonasera-wife scene - 08/03/02 09:41 PM

I have the DVD collection that came out last year, but my special features DVD section doesn't include the scene with Bonasera and his wife that was mentioned in an earlier thread. Is it supposed to be in the 2001 DVD collection or does it appear in an earlier edition of the trilogy? I would hate to think that they left it out of my pre-ordered and expensive DVD copy!!!

It's not on the DVD. I've seen it on TV broadcasts of the GF Saga (1 & 2 re-edited chronologically). No idea why it was left off the DVD collection.

I like it but if you put it in the film it ruins the beautiful edit between Brando walking up stairs and the elevator going down.

wow, great observation!! i never did notice that idea of brando going up the stairs, and going down in the elevator in the next scene.

coppola must've noticed that in the editing room, otherwise, he would've had a better angle of brando going up the stairs, thus making the link between the 2 scenes more outright.

It was an excellent scene. All the deleted scenes were excellent! What I'd really like to see is some of the stuff that never made it into any version of film, tape or DVD--for instance, Michael's assassination of Fabrizio, which was shown in stills in the Lebo book.

michael assassinated fabrizio with his own hands? whoa, i definitely want to see the stills of that now! and i heard that puzo was furious that coppola did not include fabrizio's killing in gf1, but i assumed it was the same car bombing as appeared in a deleted gf2 scene.

is that lebo worth it for a godfather saga fan? i've read that some people thought it was okay, but if it offers info not available elsewhere (as in the behind the scenes on the dvd), then i will get this lebo book.

i was thinking the same way before until i ask my friend if his dvd collection has this in the additional scenes. his is using a region 1 and mine is region 3. he checked the deleted scenes and found nothing until we learned that it is not in the dvd collection, unfair. . .

The Lebo book is definitely worthwhile. Many gems in it.

Say...my birthday is coming in a few weeks. Maybe I'll ask my brother for the Lebo book. I'd probably enjoy it more than reading the Novel itself!!!

Thanks for mentioning it, guys!!!

Hi,
That is new to me. I remember Michael assasinated Fabrizio the same way Apollonia got it. With a carbomb.

I remember from the book that Fabrizio was killed in a pizzeria in Buffalo. He is killed with a lupara ( I think it was his from Sicily) and the gun is placed accross his chest. He was not killed by Michael. I think the deleted scenes have him killed by Michael in New York with a shotgun.

Hi Don Marco,
That is correct. In the book he was killed with the lupara. In the unedited movie he was killed with a bomb. I guess the other way was thought of as too violent. Watching the GF series today makes me think of it as tame compared to Sopranos. Casino, and Goodfellas where the blood is flying out all the time. The Godfather series is and always will be my favorite. The thing that makes the movie so GREAT is it is about family above all else.

In the novel, a nameless Corleone gunman kills Fabrizio in his Buffalo, NY, pizza parlor with "a gun," and that Fabrizio was hit by "bullets." Doesn't say what kind of gun, but I inferred it was a handgun, not a lupara.

Hi,
Before he kills him however he makes sure by having Fabrizio wiggle the tatoo on his arm. This was the one that he showed to Michael in Italy and was in the novel for television.
