And in one last bit of gaming news from E3, Nintendo has finally weighed in with a look at their next-generation video game system, the Revolution, which will street in early 2006 (read more at CNN/Money and Gamespot). Note that the system will run on disc-based media this time, and will be capable of playing current DVD movie discs (but, like Microsoft's Xbox 360, neither HD-DVD or Blu-ray Disc). -- The Digital Bits

If it weren't for the fact that Nintendo has such big franchise games; Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, et al...it would be receiving the same fate as Sega and be relegated to making games for the big two (Sony and Microsoft).

The GCN was hurt by the fact that it only played DVD-mini's, and the memory cards were extranordinarily small. Now, without HD or Blu-Ray, they will fall back again. It will be able to play DVD movies now? Big whoop. That was last gen, and I thought they told everyone they would never do that since they focused on gameplay and nothing else, unlike Sony and Microsoft.

C'mon Nintendo, I am a huge fan since my parents bought me the original 8-Bit system in the late 80's. But dammit, you guys are gonna have to do something kickass to compete this nextgen era.

BTW - does anyone else think the Revolution looks like a router? :p
