At least two French prison officers were killed and others wounded on Tuesday, May 14, in an attack on a prison van transporting an inmate who escaped, a police source told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The ramming attack took place late morning at a road toll in Incarville in the Eure region of northern France, another source close to the case added. The inmate was being transported between the towns of Rouen and Evreux in Normandy.

A police source said that the attack was carried out by a team of several individuals who arrived in two vehicles and themselves later fled. One of them was also wounded, a police source said, but it was not immediately clear how many attackers there were in total.

Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti confirmed the attack on the prison convoy and said on X he was immediately heading to a crisis cell at his ministry.

The attack occurred at the Incarville (Eure) toll plaza shortly after 11 am. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on X that "All means are being deployed to find these criminals. On my instructions, several hundred police officers and gendarmes have been mobilized."

French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X that the attack “comes as a shock to us all (...). Every effort is being made to find the perpetrators of this crime, so that justice can be done in the name of the French people. We will be uncompromising."

It's like a movie.

When i heard about the it i thought the escapee would be either a big shot from the Corsican Mafia or the Mocro Mafia but he is a mid level criminal. Not a big shot.

It's usually mid level traffickers pulling these kind of stunts. It also never ends well.

Corsican gangsters aren't stupid or abrasive enough to think they can copy paste some Casa De Papel escape. When they get caught they just do their time and they're able to do their time comfortably - seeing they're still the ones with by far the most political leverage in France.

Higher level drug traffickers do from time to time attempt prison escapes, but they tend to go in a more sophisticated way about it and they make an effort to avoid casualties. They also have the means to immediately go on the lam in North Africa, mostly the Kabyle and Aures regions of Algeria seeing that's where the major French drug traffickers tend to have their roots.
Moroccan drug trafficking gangs is more a Netherlands/Belgium thing. In France the vast majority of the big time drug trafficking organizations are Algerian.

Two other guards are still critical even if they do survive they will suffer the rest of their life.
French intelligence services will hunt them the rest of their lives, no mercy.

French Gun Free Zones...

Gerald Darmanin, France's Interior Minister, said 'all means are being used' to find Mohamed Amra, 30 - known locally as 'The Fly' - after Tuesday's daring escape.

Two officers were killed and three injured when armed men opened fire on the prison van as it took Amra back to jail from a courthouse in Normandy, sparking national outrage.

Dramatic footage showed the chilling moments the prison van was rammed by a black SUV before gunmen, in hoods and balaclavas, appeared and opened fire with military-grade weapons.
