[/b][/quote]Ok, they must have changed the Hotel recently! The last time I was there was the weekend before we went to Chicago, and it was a Ramada then. So it must have changed between then and now. But as long as Harold's is still there, that's what counts!

As far as Katz's goes, Don Cardi, I never much cared for the place. The corned beef is too fatty. I always preferred the Second Avenue Deli.

There's also still a good one in your old neighborhood: Adelman's, on Kings Highway around E.19th St.

Tongue sandwich rocks, I love it and I don't have any Jewish relatives at the moment. I like mayo specially with some chicken and potato salad. I love vinegar for salad dressing, after all what's better than oil and vinegar to go with salad? The second best dressing for salad for me is plain lime juice. It is also great with any kind of fish. Yummy! My mouth is watering. I don't care that much for mustard while I don't consider it toxic and I eat it once in a while. I love any kind of pickles, halopania(sp?) peppers, those sour delish pickles. hmm...only if my stomach doesn't get upset of its excessive acid. But when I was a kid I couldn't eat any of these, there were too strong for my taste back then. I now look at my nieces and they manage to eat the whole bottle of mayo in a few seconds if you don't watch them. Pretty strange to me!

Is Jack Cooper\'s Celebrity Deli still in Edison? When I go to their site it redirects to their new Warren restaurant.

Never been there, either, but Harold's did have a better review.

JG- I believe they changed owners. My mother used to eat there all the time and about 2 years ago she stopped because the whole deli changed. The food was nowhere near what it was and the deli wasn't as clean etc...

I only really like ketchup unless it's a sub sandwich.. then I get extra mayo. :p What baffles me and also makes me a bit sick to my stomache is my friend and his sister. They pretty much soak their fries in a bowl of vinegar and then dip them in mayo!

You know when sometimes you leave your laundry in the washer for too long after they're done (like overnight) and they smell gross and moldy? If you pour in some white vinegar and let it wash again, the smell is gone. See? it's not completely useless.

I was going to say that but I figured a jar was made of glass and not plastic. Words are not my strongpoint lol

I've tried it many times. When I was a kid my mom used to buy it regularly, and I'd eat it (not really knowing what it was). I never liked the taste, and certainly not the texture. It reminds me of this joke:

A guy goes into a deli and doesn't know what to order, so he asks the waiter to suggest something.

The waiter replies, "How about a tongue sandwich?"

The guy yells, "Yeccch, thats disgusting, how could you want me to eat something that came out of an animal's mouth? Suggest something else"

The waiter replied, "OK, how about a fried egg sandwich?"

I guess its all relative, but I hate tongue sandwiches.

One thing I DID love (as a kid) was rendered chicken fat on bread. Its heart attack city, but its sooooooo good.

Bally's has an Excellent Deli, which may be the one that you are thinking of, "Pickles" is the name of it. Very good place.

As for what you say about Katz's corned beef, yes, you are correct. The last several times we ordered from Katz for lunch, a couple of people complained just about that! Me, I had the Brisket, which was still pretty good. But the place is not what it used to be.

One of the many things that were great about NYC is the enormous number of delis and restaurants. We don't have a fraction of the delis here that you guys do.

I wish I could remember the name of the one I went to when I was there (somewhere by the Edison). I ordered a pastrami sandwich which consisted of 1 lb. of pastrami!!! It was great. I think probably the best I ever had. Not only that...... I ate it all!! :p I didn't want to walk around carrying a half of pastrami sandwich. I had to eat it. :p

I love mayo, but dislike the other 3, especially mustard. I hate pickles and mustard the most.

That sandwich sure looks mighty good!! :p PLaw is right though. I was speaking of a deli by the Hotel Edison. I didn't know there was a city by that neme. The only Edison I know around here, is our electric company.

Isn't that one of the criteria to even be hired as a waitress in a deli? It's always surreal, having a mean, pissed-off woman calling you "Honey" or "Sweetie."

I don't recall even getting a "honey" or a "sweetie". Just a look of discontent.
