Even though this was finished by Carol Gino, The Family is much better than Puzo's recent works like The Last Don and Omerta.

Not that those books were bad - they were entertaining - but I think Puzo had done the mafia thing to death.

The Family recalls the hallmarks of Puzo's greatness - lust, betrayal, power and scheming on a grand scale. It's obvious that Puzo had put many years - he had written it off and on over at least a decade - into this work, and it's a fitting finale for the great Puzo.

I think you make a fair point. Yeah maybe he had done the over done the Mafia thing. But they were still enjoyable. What I really liked about The Family was that it was something new to me and quite gladly opened my eyes to another part of history. From that i've gone on to read up on Machiavelli, Michaelangelo and Da Vinci.

Although it did have it's flaws, most notably for me was it's lack of closure for an ending, it was a good read.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
